DCC Patrons of Lankhmar is a supplement for the Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG that introduces six powerful entities that can serve as patrons for the adventurers in the world of Nehwon, the setting of Fritz Leiber’s classic sword and sorcery stories. The book is authorized by the estate of Fritz Leiber and is part of the DCC Lankhmar line that aims to bring the tales of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser to life. In this review, I will give you an overview of the book, its strengths and weaknesses, and my final verdict.
What’s inside?
The book is a 16-page PDF that contains information on each patron, such as their role in Nehwon, their goals, their allies and enemies, and their appearance. It also provides tables for invoking their aid, corruption charts for when things go wrong, and new spellburn possibilities. The patrons are:
- The Sea King: The ruler of the Outer Ocean and all its creatures, who seeks to expand his domain and punish those who pollute his waters.
- Mog the Spider God: The ancient deity of spiders, who weaves webs of fate and fortune, and demands sacrifices of blood and souls.
- Sheelba of the Eyeless Face: The mysterious wanderer who travels through dimensions and realities, who guides and tests those who seek his secrets.
- Death: The inevitable end of all things, who can be bargained with or cheated, but never truly escaped.
- The Black Gondola: The sentient vessel that ferries the dead across the River Hlal, who can grant passage or refuse it, depending on its whims.
- The Rat God: The patron of thieves, beggars, and outcasts, who can bestow stealth, cunning, and luck, or inflict disease, madness, and misfortune.
The book also includes some sample patrons for Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, as well as some tips on how to create your own patrons.
