Antimagic Cone. The beholder’s central eye creates an area of antimagic, as in the antimagic field spell, in a 150-foot cone. At the start of each of its turns, the beholder decides which way the cone faces and whether the cone is active. The cone is deactivated when the Central Eye Blast is ready to use, and reactivated after the power is discharged.

ACTIONS

  • Weapon Attack. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d10 + 2) slashing damage, or 8 (1d12 + 2) slashing damage if used with two hands, or 9 (1d10 + 4) piercing damage if used with two hands and has the reach property. The beholder lensman can use any two-handed weapon or polearm, such as a greatsword, a glaive, or a pike.
  • Central Eye Blast (Recharge 6). The beholder lensman can use its central eye to unleash a powerful blast of energy. The beholder lensman chooses one of the following effects:
    • Fire Blast. The beholder lensman emits a 60-foot cone of fire. Each creature in that area must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 22 (4d10) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
    • Lightning Blast. The beholder lensman emits a 100-foot line of lightning. Each creature in that line must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 22 (4d10) lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
    • Force Blast. The beholder lensman emits a 30-foot cone of force. Each creature in that area must make a DC 13 Strength saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 22 (4d10) force damage and is pushed 15 feet away from the beholder lensman. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and isn’t pushed. In addition, unsecured objects that are completely within the area of effect are automatically pushed 15 feet away from the beholder lensman by the spell’s effect, and the spell emits a thunderous boom audible out to 300 feet.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A beholder lensman is a rare and bizarre variant of the beholder-kin, a group of aberrant creatures that share the trait of having multiple eyes with different magical abilities. A beholder lensman has one eye set in the chest of its five-limbed, starfish-shaped, simian body. The eye can project a cone of antimagic that nullifies any magic within its range. Beneath the eye is a leering, toothy maw that can deliver a painful bite. Four of the five limbs end in three-fingered, two-thumbed, clawed hands that can be used for climbing, grasping, or fighting. The fifth limb, atop the body, is a prehensile, whip-like tentacle that can manipulate objects or creatures with telekinesis. The lensman’s skin is covered with patches of fur, scales, or feathers, depending on the individual. The lensman’s coloration ranges from brown to green to purple, often with contrasting patterns or markings. The lensman’s size is comparable to that of a large dog or a small bear . Lensmen are the only kin to wear any sort of garb – a webbing that is used to hold tools and weapons. Their preferred weapons are double-headed pole arms that they wield with skill and ferocity.

COMBAT

A beholder lensman is a cunning and ruthless combatant, using its antimagic cone to disable its enemies’ spells and magic items, and then attacking with its limbs, bite, and pole arm. The lensman can also use its eye to manipulate objects or creatures with telekinesis, hurling them around or crushing them with its mental force. The lensman is not afraid to use its environment to its advantage, hiding behind cover, setting traps, or creating distractions. The lensman is also adept at using magic items, especially those that enhance its senses, mobility, or defenses. The lensman prefers to fight from a distance, avoiding direct confrontation unless necessary. The lensman is wary of other beholders and their kin, knowing that they are likely to view it as a rival or a threat.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A beholder lensman is a solitary and secretive creature, avoiding contact with other beings unless it has a reason to interact with them. The lensman is often driven by curiosity, greed, or ambition, seeking to acquire knowledge, wealth, or power. The lensman may ally itself with other creatures that share its goals or interests, but it is always careful to maintain its independence and superiority. The lensman is not loyal to anyone but itself, and will betray or abandon its allies if it suits its purposes. The lensman is also paranoid and suspicious, constantly fearing that someone or something is plotting against it. The lensman may construct a lair for itself, usually in a secluded and defensible location, where it can store its treasures and conduct its experiments. The lensman may also roam the world, exploring new lands and seeking new challenges.

ECOLOGY

A beholder lensman is a rare and unnatural creature, the result of a freak mutation or a twisted experiment. The lensman does not reproduce in a natural way, but rather creates clones of itself through a process of self-fertilization. The lensman may also attempt to create new variants of itself or other beholder-kin by using magic, alchemy, or surgery. The lensman is not a part of any natural ecosystem, but rather an invader and a disruptor. The lensman may prey on other creatures for food, sport, or resources, or manipulate them for its own ends. The lensman may also compete with or antagonize other creatures that pose a threat to its plans or existence. The lensman is a potential danger to any world it inhabits, as it may seek to dominate, destroy, or transform it according to its whims.
