Angelic Weapons. The deva’s weapon attacks are magical. When the deva hits with any weapon, the weapon deals an extra 4d8 radiant damage (included in the attack).

Celestial Fury (suggested). When the astral deva takes the Attack action on its turn, it can cast one spell of 1st level or higher as a bonus action, using its spellcasting ability. The spell must have a casting time of 1 action and must target only one creature that the astral deva can see within range.

Dueling (suggested). When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with that weapon. The +2 damage bonus is already included in the damage.

Innate Spellcasting. The deva’s spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 17). The deva can innately cast the following spells, requiring only verbal components:

Magic Resistance. The deva has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The deva makes two melee attacks.
Multiattack (suggested). The deva makes four melee attacks with its celestial mace of disruption.
  • Mace. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d6+4+2) bludgeoning damage plus 9 (4d8) radiant damage.
  • Celestial Mace of Disruption +3. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (1d6+9) bludgeoning damage plus 9 (4d8) radiant damage.
  • Healing Touch (3/Day). The deva touches another creature. The target magically regains 20 (4d8 + 2) hit points and is freed from any curse, disease, poison, blindness, or deafness.
  • Change Shape. The deva magically polymorphs into a humanoid or beast that has a challenge rating equal to or less than its own, or back into its true form. It reverts to its true form if it dies. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying is absorbed or borne by the new form (the deva’s choice). In a new form, the deva retains its game statistics and ability to speak, but its AC, movement modes, Strength, Dexterity, and special senses are replaced by those of the new form, and it gains any statistics and capabilities (except class features, legendary actions, and lair actions) that the new form has but that it lacks.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

An astral deva is a powerful and majestic angel that serves as a messenger or agent of the forces of good in the multiverse. They are often sent by their celestial lords to aid, guide, or protect mortals who are aligned with their cause, or to oppose the schemes of fiends and other evil beings. An astral deva has a human-like appearance, but with golden skin, fair or golden hair, amber eyes, and two large feathered wings that are tinted with gold. They also have four arms, which they can use to wield their celestial mace or cast spells. This is a feature that distinguishes them from other types of devas and makes them more versatile and formidable in combat. They radiate a bright aura of divine power that makes it hard to look directly at them. They are tall and muscular, standing about 7 feet tall and weighing about 250 pounds. They usually wear little or no clothing, preferring to display their natural beauty and grace. Devas inhabit the good-aligned Outer Planes: Arborea, Arcadia, the Beastlands, Bytopia, Elysium, Mount Celestia, and Ysgard. These proxies of the powers appear as stunningly handsome male humans with large, feathery wings fanning gracefully from their shoulders.

COMBAT

An astral deva is a formidable combatant, capable of using both physical and magical attacks. They wield a large mace-like weapon called a celestial mace, which is enchanted by their own magic and can deal extra radiant damage and disrupt undead creatures. They can also cast spells innately, such as detect evil and good, commune, and raise dead. They have resistance to radiant damage and nonmagical weapons, as well as immunity to charm, exhaustion, and fear effects. They have darkvision and telepathy, and can speak any language. They can also change their shape into any humanoid or beast that has a challenge rating equal to or lower than their own, or back into their true form.

An astral deva fights with courage and conviction, never retreating from a just cause. They are loyal to their celestial lords and allies, and will not hesitate to sacrifice themselves for them if necessary. They are merciless against fiends and other evil creatures, and will try to destroy them or drive them away. They are also compassionate towards good and neutral beings, and will try to help them or spare them if possible.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

An astral deva lives in the Upper Planes, the realms of pure good and order in the multiverse. They serve various celestial lords, such as archons, eladrins, guardinals, or solars, who assign them missions or tasks according to their divine will. An astral deva can travel freely between the Upper Planes and the Astral Plane, where they often rescue lost or stranded mortals of good alignment. They can also travel to the Material Plane or other planes if their mission requires it.

An astral deva is usually solitary or works in pairs or trios, but sometimes they form squads of up to five members for more dangerous missions. They are the strongest of the three orders of devas, the others being monadic devas and movanic devas. However, they are politically equal to the other devas, and there is no rivalry between them. They sometimes bicker over differences in personality, but they always cooperate when facing a common enemy.

Devas are the cornerstone of the forces of good. With the agathinon, they are the powerful and trusted vanguard of the Upper Planes. Each of the three varieties of devas has a different task to perform in the scheme of the Upper Planes. The varieties are equal in status with no rivalry between types.

ECOLOGY

An astral deva does not need to eat or drink, but they can do so if they wish. They are omnivorous, but they prefer fruits and vegetables over meat. They do not age or die of natural causes, but they can be killed by violence or magic. If an astral deva dies in a plane other than its home plane, its body disintegrates and its essence returns to its home plane. There it reforms after a period of time that varies depending on the circumstances of its death. If an astral deva dies in its home plane, it is permanently destroyed.

An astral deva has no need for treasure or wealth, but they may carry useful items that they find or receive as gifts from their allies. They do not reproduce sexually, but they can create new devas by imbuing a portion of their essence into a mortal soul that has died while performing a heroic deed for the cause of good. This process transforms the soul into a new deva of the same order as the donor. The new deva retains some memories of its previous life, but its personality is altered by its new nature.

An astral deva has a positive impact on the ecology of its home plane and any other plane it visits. It helps maintain the balance of good and evil in the multiverse by fighting against the forces of darkness and corruption. It also inspires hope and courage in those who witness its deeds or receive its aid.

Deva is employed as material component to empower the following spells:
