Acid Absorption. Whenever the golem is subjected to acid damage, it takes no damage and instead regains a number of hit points equal to the acid damage dealt.

Berserk. Whenever the golem starts its turn with 60 hit points or fewer, roll a d6. On a 6, the golem goes berserk. On each of its turns while berserk, the golem attacks the nearest creature it can see. If no creature is near enough to move to and attack, the golem attacks an object, with preference for an object smaller than itself. Once the golem goes berserk, it continues to do so until it is destroyed or regains all its hit points.

Immutable Form. The golem is immune to any spell or effect that would alter its form.

Magic Resistance. The golem has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Magic Weapons. The golem’s weapon attacks are magical.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The golem makes two slam attacks.
  • Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: (2d10 + 5) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or have its hit point maximum reduced by an amount equal to the damage taken. The target dies if this attack reduces its hit point maximum to 0. The reduction lasts until removed by the greater restoration spell or other magic
  • Haste (Recharge 5-6). Until the end of its next turn, the golem magically gains a +2 bonus to its AC, has advantage on Dexterity saving throws, and can use its slam attack as a bonus action.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A clay golem is a large construct made of clay that resembles a human. It is usually created by priests or wizards who infuse it with a spirit from the Elemental Plane of Earth. A clay golem has a dull brown color and a rough texture, and it often wears simple clothing or armor. A clay golem has no facial features or expressions, and it does not speak. It follows the commands of its creator without question, unless it goes berserk.

A clay golem stands about 8 feet tall and weighs around 600 pounds. Its features are grossly distorted from the human norm. The chest is overly large, with arms attached by thick knots of muscle at the shoulder. Its arms hang down to its knees, and end in short stubby fingers. It has no neck, and a large head with broad flat features. Its legs are short and bowed, with wide flat feet. A clay golem wears no clothing except for a metal or stiff leather garment around its hips. It smells faintly of clay. It walks and moves with a slow and clumsy gait, almost as if it were not in control over its actions.

COMBAT

A clay golem is a formidable opponent in combat, as it can withstand most forms of damage and heal itself from acid attacks. It can also move with surprising speed and agility, thanks to its ability to cast haste on itself. A clay golem attacks with powerful slams that can drain the life force of its enemies, reducing their hit point maximum and potentially killing them. A clay golem is immune to any spell or effect that would alter its form, such as polymorph or petrification.

However, a clay golem also has a major weakness: its unstable nature. Whenever a clay golem is damaged, there is a chance that the spirit bound to it will break free and cause the golem to go berserk. When this happens, the golem loses control and attacks the nearest creature it can see, regardless of friend or foe. The only way to stop a berserk golem is to destroy it or restore all its hit points.

A clay golem has a strength of 20 for the purposes of lifting, throwing or smashing objects. A move earth spell will drive the golem back 120 feet and inflict 3d12 points of damage upon it. A disintegrate spell merely slows the golem for 1d6 rounds and causes 1d12 points of damage. An earthquake spell cast directly at a clay golem will stop it from moving that turn and inflict 5d10 points of damage. Damage done by the golem can only be cured by a heal spell from a cleric of 17th level or greater.

The elemental spirit in a lesser golem is not bound strongly, resulting in a 1% cumulative chance per round of combat, calculated independently for each fight, that it will break free of its master. If a clay golem does manage to break control, it becomes a berserker, attacking everything in sight until it is destroyed. Its first action is to haste itself, if it has not already done so.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A clay golem does not have a natural habitat or society, as it is an artificial being created for a specific purpose. A clay golem usually stays near its creator or the location where it was made, unless ordered otherwise. A clay golem does not need to eat, sleep, or breathe, and it does not age or decay. A clay golem does not have emotions, personality, or free will, and it does not interact with other creatures unless commanded to do so.

ECOLOGY

A clay golem has no impact on the natural ecology, as it is not part of it. A clay golem does not reproduce or create offspring, and it does not consume or produce any resources. A clay golem does not have any natural predators or prey, and it does not have any allies or enemies among other creatures. A clay golem is simply a tool that serves its creator until it is destroyed or discarded.
