5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A maw demon is a fiendish creature that resembles a huge, toothy mouth surrounded by a mass of writhing tentacles. It has no eyes, ears, or nose, but it can sense its surroundings through vibrations and smells. A maw demon is driven by an insatiable hunger for carnage and flesh, and will devour anything that crosses its path. A maw demon is loyal to the demon lord Yeenoghu, who is also known as the Beast of Butchery.

COMBAT

A maw demon is a ferocious combatant that relies on its bite and tentacles to attack its enemies. It can also spew a stream of acidic bile that can burn through metal and flesh. A maw demon is resistant to cold, fire, and lightning damage, and immune to poison and some mental effects. It can rampage through a battlefield, moving and biting as a bonus action whenever it kills a creature. A maw demon is not very intelligent or tactical, and will often attack the nearest or most wounded target.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A maw demon dwells in the Abyss, the infinite plane of chaos and evil. It can be found on any layer of the Abyss, but it prefers the Gaping Maw, the realm of Yeenoghu. A maw demon serves as a minion or a pet for more powerful demons, or roams the Abyss in search of prey. A maw demon has no sense of self or society, and will not cooperate with other maw demons unless compelled by a stronger force. A maw demon has no language of its own, but it can understand Abyssal.

ECOLOGY

A maw demon has a unique digestive system that transports anything it devours to the Abyss after it rests for eight hours. This means that a maw demon can consume more than its own body weight in a single day, and leave no trace of its victims behind. However, this also means that a maw demon’s stomach can contain all kinds of oddities and treasures that were swallowed by accident or on purpose. Some adventurers have been known to brave the dangers of the Abyss to hunt down maw demons and loot their stomachs. A maw demon does not reproduce naturally, but it can be created by Yeenoghu or other powerful demons through rituals or experiments.
