PLANT, WARPLILY

From the Stars Without Number Compatible – Alien Database

Psionic (Warp Field). The warplily spontaneously emanates a psionic wave that is capable of bending the fabric of space-time, as much as a standard warp technology does, but to a limited degree. The warped area extends for 100 meters, and here is where the warp area is stronger and potentially harmful. If a creature enters the harmful area, roll a d6 to determine the effects.

  1. The creature is teleported in a random position 1d10 miles away from the warplily.
  2. The creature is sucked in an inter-dimensional pocket and disappears. It will reappear once the warplily is gone, but it will have aged 1d10 years for each day he stayed in the inter-dimensional pocket.
  3. The creature is infected by an unknown inter-dimensional illness. It will manifest serious psychotic behavior and strange physical mutations. The whole process takes 2d6 days, and every day it can make a Mental/Wisdom saving throw to slow the illness by one day. At the end of the transformation process, the creature becomes…something else.
  4. The warplily remains in the same place for one more day. The creature suffers the loss of 2d6 points of wisdom. If the creature’s wisdom drops to zero, it enters a catatonic state; the state is curable, but the cure is unknown to the present day. If the creature still has wisdom points left, it will recover one point every standard day.
  5. The warped area extends to one kilometer and all creatures caught in the area are sucked in an inter-dimensional pocket and reappear 1d100 years in the future.
  6. The warped area extends to one kilometer and all creatures caught in the area are sucked in an inter-dimensional pocket and reappear 1d100 years in the past.

COMBAT & TACTICS

The warplily is not inherently hostile, aggressive, or malevolent. The only harmful effect, for a living being, is the warp area that emanates from the plant. The warped area is detectable utilizing standard technological devices, including portable devices, well before reaching the harmful area, so it is unlikely that an explorer is caught by surprise unless he is not properly equipped. In addition, the warp area produces low radiations in a radius of thousands of miles, detectable by scanners, but the radiation
is classified as a damaged warp engine. The warplily appears from nowhere and disappears after 2d10 days.

DESCRIPTION

The origin of this weird plant remains a mystery, as a mystery is the origin of its powers. According to those who survived an encounter with a warplily – this is the name given by explorers – it vaguely resembles a large lily flower. It is around two meters tall, with roots spreading from its central trunk in a radius of
10 meters. In addition, always according to survivors, it seems that the roots at a certain point become translucent, only to disappear no one knows where. The color of the warplily is ever-changing, varying from different tonalities of blue and purple, changing to white, rose and tonalities of red.

HABITAT

The warplily has not a preferred habitat, it seems to appear out of nowhere and for unknown reasons. However, the few and scarce reports have noticed the same pattern; the warplily has always been spotted in subterranean caves.

BIOLOGY

Xenobiologists and the scientific community know really few details about the warplily, and most of them dismissed the stories about this weird plant as unreliable tales told by explorers. The truth is another, however, because the warplily exist, and the fact that very few have ever told about their encounter with this plant is because very few have ever come back to tell the tale.
