5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

An ice devil is a powerful and fearsome creature that represents one of the highest ranks of devil in the Nine Hells. It is the fate of cunning and ruthless souls that have proven themselves worthy of promotion and recognition. An ice devil has a humanoid shape with a chitinous exoskeleton, insectoid limbs, and a long, segmented tail. Its face is a mask of cold and cruelty, with glowing red eyes and sharp mandibles. An ice devil has a keen intellect and a strong will, commanding respect and fear from its inferiors and peers.

COMBAT

Ice devils are master tacticians and strategists, leading armies of lesser devils in the Blood War against the demons. They are also formidable warriors, using their natural weapons and spells to inflict maximum damage on their enemies. They have a preference for cold environments, where they can use their innate ability to create walls of ice to trap and isolate their foes. They also have a special ability called infernal wound, which causes their attacks to inflict persistent bleeding damage that can only be healed by magic or by a devil.

Ice devils have many natural defenses that make them hard to kill. They are resistant to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical weapons that are not silvered. They are also immune to cold, fire, and poison damage, as well as being charmed, frightened, or poisoned. They have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects, and they can see through darkness, both magical and nonmagical.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

Ice devils are found in the eighth layer of the Nine Hells, known as Cania, where they serve as the generals and advisors of Mephistopheles, the archdevil who rules over this frozen realm. They are also sent to other layers of the Nine Hells or other planes of existence to carry out missions or oversee operations for their lord. Ice devils are loyal and obedient to Mephistopheles, who rewards them with power and prestige. They are also ambitious and competitive, seeking to advance their rank and status among the infernal hierarchy.

Ice devils have a complex and rigid society that is based on merit and hierarchy. They are divided into three castes: the gelugons, the kocrachons, and the narzugons. The gelugons are the highest caste, comprising the most powerful and influential ice devils. They are the leaders and commanders of the ice devil armies, as well as the personal agents and emissaries of Mephistopheles. The kocrachons are the middle caste, comprising the majority of ice devils. They are the soldiers and enforcers of the ice devil society, carrying out orders and tasks from their superiors. The narzugons are the lowest caste, comprising the weakest and most despised ice devils. They are the scouts and spies of the ice devil society, performing dangerous and dishonorable missions for their superiors.

ECOLOGY

Ice devils are unnatural creatures, created by Mephistopheles from the souls of mortals who were exceptionally cunning, ruthless, or ambitious in life. They have no role or purpose in the natural order, only serving as instruments of Mephistopheles’ schemes and ambitions. Ice devils are carnivorous and will consume any living thing they can catch, but they do not need to eat to survive. They only feed out of habit or pleasure, enjoying the taste of fear and pain in their prey. Ice devils have no reproductive system or gender, but they can be created from other sources, such as other devils who undergo promotion by ordeal or mortal cultists who pledge their souls to Mephistopheles or his ice devils.
