Psychic Mirror. If the hulk takes psychic damage, each creature within 10 feet of the hulk takes that damage instead; the hulk takes none of the damage. In addition, the hulk’s thoughts and location can’t be discerned by magic.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The hulk makes two slam attacks. If both attacks hit the same target, the target also takes 9 (2d8) psychic damage and must succeed on a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of the target’s next turn.
  • Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) bludgeoning damage.
  • Reaping Arms (Recharge 5- 6). The hulk makes a separate slam attack against each creature within 10 feet of it. Each creature that is hit must also succeed on a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A star spawn hulk is a massive aberration that serves as a bodyguard and a weapon for a star spawn seer, a powerful psychic creature that commands the star spawn. A hulk has glistening, translucent skin that reveals its internal organs and bones. Its face is distorted by too many teeth and too little nose, and its pale and seemingly lidless eyes glare balefully at its enemies. A hulk is one of the largest of the known star spawn, standing over 10 feet tall and weighing more than a ton.

COMBAT

A star spawn hulk is a formidable combatant that relies on its brute strength and durability to crush its foes. It can make two slam attacks with its massive fists, and if both attacks hit the same target, the target also takes psychic damage and is stunned until the start of its next turn. A hulk also has a psychic mirror ability that reflects any psychic damage it takes to each creature within 10 feet of it, while the hulk takes none of the damage. In addition, the hulk’s thoughts and location cannot be discerned by magic.

A star spawn hulk is seldom encountered without a star spawn seer nearby. The seer can use its psychic link ability to deal psychic damage to a hulk, which triggers the hulk’s psychic mirror ability and expands the effect to assault all creatures within 20 feet of the hulk. The seer can also use its reality warp ability to swap places with a hulk, allowing it to avoid attacks or surprise enemies.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A star spawn hulk is not native to the Material Plane, but rather originates from an alien realm beyond the stars. Star spawn are the servants of ancient and malevolent entities that seek to corrupt and consume reality. Star spawn emissaries are the heralds of these entities, and they often infiltrate and manipulate civilizations to prepare them for their masters’ arrival. Star spawn seers are the commanders of the star spawn forces, and they usually have one or more hulks as their personal guards and weapons.

A star spawn hulk has little will of its own and is driven to protect its master, the seer. It follows the seer’s orders without question and does not communicate with other creatures. A hulk does not need to eat, drink, or sleep, but it does require a dark and secluded place to rest and regenerate its wounds.

ECOLOGY

A star spawn hulk is an aberration that defies the natural laws of the world. It does not reproduce or interact with other creatures, except to destroy them. A hulk does not have any natural predators or prey, but it may be hunted by adventurers or other enemies of the star spawn. A hulk’s body melts away when it dies, leaving no trace of its existence.
