5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A winged kobold is a small humanoid creature with reptilian features and a pair of leathery wings. They have reddish-brown or black scales, orange or yellow eyes, and a long tail. They are distant relatives of the more common kobolds, but they are considered a separate race by most scholars. They speak Common and Draconic, and often worship Tiamat, the evil dragon goddess.

COMBAT

Winged kobolds are cowardly and cunning, preferring to avoid direct confrontation with stronger foes. They use their flight ability to ambush, harass, or flee from their enemies, often dropping rocks or other improvised weapons from above. They also rely on their pack tactics, gaining advantage on their attacks when they have allies nearby. They are vulnerable to sunlight, which impairs their vision and accuracy.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

Winged kobolds usually live in high places, such as mountains, cliffs, or tall buildings. They form small clans or tribes, led by the strongest or most charismatic member. They often ally themselves with other kobolds or evil dragons, serving as scouts, messengers, or aerial support. They are envious of other flying creatures, especially rocs and dragons, and sometimes try to steal their eggs or treasure.

Winged kobolds are not well-liked by their wingless kin, who resent them for their flight ability and see them as favored by Kuraulyek, a winged godling who betrayed Kurtulmak, the kobold god. Winged kobolds also tend to look down on their ground-bound cousins, considering them inferior and weak. Despite this animosity, winged and wingless kobolds sometimes cooperate for mutual benefit or survival.

ECOLOGY

Winged kobolds are omnivorous scavengers, eating whatever they can find or steal. They have a fast metabolism and need to eat frequently. They are also prolific breeders, laying eggs that hatch in a few weeks. Some of these eggs produce winged kobolds at random, even if both parents are wingless. Winged kobolds have a short lifespan, rarely living longer than 20 years.

Winged kobolds have few natural predators, thanks to their flight ability and their association with dragons. However, they are often hunted by adventurers, who see them as pests or threats. Winged kobolds also have a negative impact on the environment, as they deforest areas for their nests and deplete resources for other creatures.
