5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A leucrotta is a monstrous creature that resembles a patchwork of different animals. It has the head of a giant badger, the body of a large hyena, the legs of a deer, and the tail of a lion. Its eyes glow red, its skin is oily and foul-smelling, and its mouth is filled with jagged bony ridges instead of teeth. It can mimic the sounds of animals and humanoids, using its deception to lure prey into its traps. A leucrotta is a product of demonic corruption, and it revels in cruelty and violence.

COMBAT

A leucrotta is a cunning and vicious hunter that prefers to ambush its victims rather than engage in direct combat. It uses its keen sense of smell and mimicry to track and attract prey, often imitating the cries of wounded or distressed creatures. It then attacks with its powerful bite, which can inflict severe damage on a critical hit, and its hooves, which can kick back at enemies that get too close. A leucrotta can also retreat quickly after striking, using its speed and agility to avoid retaliation. If a leucrotta kills a creature with its melee attack, it can rampage to another target, moving and attacking as a bonus action. A leucrotta is chaotic evil in alignment, and it serves the demon lord Toknana, who grants it some resistance to magic.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A leucrotta lives in cold or temperate hills and mountains, far from civilization. It is a solitary creature that avoids contact with other leucrottas, except during mating season. A leucrotta mates with any creature it can overpower, regardless of species or gender, producing offspring that are either leucrottas or changesteeds, a smaller and more horse-like variant. A leucrotta does not care for its young, leaving them to fend for themselves as soon as they are born. Leucrotta lair in treacherous ravines and rocky spires, because they are as surefooted as a mountain goat. Caves, old abandoned towers, or a hollowed out deadfall are the preferred lairs for this disgusting beast. For every four leucrotta found in a lair, there is a 10% chance that an extra one, an immature leucrotta of half strength, is also present. Leucrotta are not very family oriented species, as their nasty tempers extend sometimes to each other. The beasts range over a 20-mile area.

ECOLOGY

A leucrotta is a carnivorous creature that feeds on any flesh it can find, preferring fresh kills over carrion. It often tortures its prey before killing it, enjoying the pain and fear it causes. A leucrotta has no natural predators, as few animals dare to challenge it. A leucrotta has a lifespan of about 20 years, but it can live longer if it consumes enough demonic energy. A leucrotta has no use for treasure or material goods, but it sometimes collects shiny or interesting objects that catch its eye. Leucrotta distance themselves from the grand picture of nature, preferring to lurk on the fringes. They serve no practical use and one would be hard pressed to find a druid that would try to protect a member of this species. Some sages speculate that the leucrotta is an unnatural abnormality, an aberration spawned by some demented power or archmage.

Still, some mages prize the leucrotta hide for creating boots of striding and springing, hoping that the surefootedness of the beast passes down to the boots themselves. There are rumors that leucrotta saliva is an effective antidote to love philters, but so far there have been no volunteers to test this theory.

A leucrotta can speak Abyssal, Common, Draconic, Giant, and Gnoll, but it rarely communicates with anything other than threats or taunts.
