What are slaadi?

Slaadi (singular: slaad) are frog-like creatures that embody the chaotic nature of Limbo, the plane of pure potential and ever-changing madness. They are born from the primordial soup of Limbo, either by evolution or by the will of some mysterious force. They are belligerent, unpredictable, and often violent, seeking to spread chaos and disorder wherever they go.

Slaadi have a complex and bizarre life cycle that involves infecting other creatures with their chaotic essence, transforming them into new slaadi or using them as hosts for their offspring. They also have a hierarchy based on color, with each type of slaad having different abilities and roles in their society. The most powerful slaadi are known as slaad lords, who are unique beings that represent different aspects of chaos and have god-like powers.

Slaadi are often found on the battlefields of the Blood War, the eternal conflict between devils and demons, where they scavenge corpses and prey on the wounded. They also raid other planes, especially those that have a strong sense of order and stability, such as Mechanus or Celestia. Slaadi have no interest in the politics or goals of other fiends, but they sometimes ally with them for their own amusement or benefit.

What do slaadi look like?

Slaadi are humanoid in shape, but with amphibian features such as webbed feet, moist skin, and bulging eyes. They have large heads with wide mouths full of sharp teeth, and long claws on their hands. Their skin color varies depending on their type, ranging from red to blue to green to gray to black. A gemstone of the same color is embedded in their forehead, which is a symbol of their power and identity. The gemstone also contains carvings that indicate their past deeds and status, such as kills, conquests, duels, etc. Other slaadi can read these markings and instantly recognize the slaad’s rank and reputation.

Slaadi are creatures of chaos, so no two slaadi are exactly alike. They may have different sizes, shapes, patterns, or even extra features such as horns, scales, tails, hair, or wings. Some slaadi can also change their shape at will, assuming humanoid forms to blend in with other races or to deceive them.

Slaadi speak their own language, which is a mix of croaks, hisses, and clicks. They also have limited telepathy that allows them to communicate with any creature that has a mind.

About the Chaos Phage: The Disease of Transformation

Chaos phage is a deadly disease that affects humanoids who are wounded by the bone hooks of blue slaadi. It causes them to lose hit points and hit point maximum, and eventually transform into red slaad or green slaad. The disease can also infect spellcasters who cast 3rd level spells or higher, turning them into green slaadi. Chaos phage is a slow-acting but fatal condition that can only be cured by magical means.
