Plant Camouflage. The vegepygmy has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks it makes in any terrain with ample obscuring plant life.

Regeneration. The vegepygmy regains 5 hit points at the start of its turn. If it takes cold, fire, or necrotic damage, this trait doesn’t function at the start of the vegepygmy’s next turn. The vegepygmy dies only if it starts its turn with 0 hit points and doesn’t regenerate.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The vegepygmy makes two attacks with its claws or two melee attacks with its spear.
  • Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) slashing damage.
  • Spear. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage, or 6 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage if used with two hands to make a melee attack.
  • Spores (1/Day). A 15-foot-radius cloud of toxic spores extends out from the vegepygmy. The spores spread around corners. Each creature in that area that isn’t a plant must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned. While poisoned in this way, a target takes 9 (2d8) poison damage at the start of each of its turns. A target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its wrn·s, ending the effect on itself on a success.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A vegepygmy chief is a plant-like humanoid that has grown stronger and more resilient than its kin. It has green or brown skin covered with patches of russet mold, a parasitic fungus that can infect and kill other creatures. A vegepygmy chief has spiky hair, clawed hands, and a primitive spear. It can communicate with other vegepygmies using a simple language of clicks and whistles.

COMBAT

A vegepygmy chief is a cunning and fierce fighter that leads its tribe in battle. It can use its claws or spear to attack, but its most dangerous weapon is its ability to release a cloud of spores that can infect nearby enemies. The spores cause a painful rash that weakens the victim and eventually turns them into a new vegepygmy. A vegepygmy chief can also command its loyal thorny, a plant-like beast that serves as its pet and protector.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A vegepygmy chief lives in a tribe of about 20 to 30 vegepygmies, usually in a damp and dark area where russet mold thrives. The tribe worships the mold as a source of life and seeks to spread it to new lands. The chief is respected by the other vegepygmies for its strength and wisdom, and often acts as a mediator or arbitrator in disputes. The chief also decides when and where to hunt, raid, or migrate. A vegepygmy chief may form alliances with other plant creatures, such as myconids or shambling mounds, but is wary of outsiders and hostile to intruders.

ECOLOGY

A vegepygmy chief is a natural result of the life cycle of russet mold. As a vegepygmy ages, it develops more spore clusters on its body, making it more resistant to damage and more infectious. A vegepygmy chief can live up to 50 years, but may be challenged by younger rivals for leadership. A vegepygmy chief feeds on organic matter, such as fruits, fungi, or carrion, but prefers fresh meat from living prey. A vegepygmy chief reproduces by infecting other creatures with its spores, creating new vegepygmies that share its genetic traits.
