5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A needle blight is a horrid plant creature that resembles a shuffling, hunched humanoid covered in quivering clumps of conifer-like needles. Its eyes are dark and sunken, and its mouth is a jagged slit that drips with sap. A needle blight can lash out with its needles or launch them as an aerial assault that can pierce through armor and flesh. A needle blight can blend in with the trees in a forest, using its natural camouflage to ambush its prey from the shadows.

COMBAT

A needle blight is not very intelligent, but it is cunning and vicious. It attacks with its claws or its needles, depending on the distance and the situation. It can fire a volley of needles at a single target within 30 feet, or it can spray needles in a 15-foot cone at close range. A needle blight can sense the presence of living creatures within 60 feet, even if they are invisible or obscured by darkness. A needle blight is immune to being blinded or deafened, but it is vulnerable to fire and radiant damage.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A needle blight is usually created by a Gulthias tree, a corrupted plant that spawns evil blights from its twisted branches. A Gulthias tree can control the blights it creates, often using them to carry out its old grudges or to seek out treasures valuable to it. A needle blight can also act independently, forming small groups with other blights or allying with other evil creatures that share its hatred for life. A needle blight has no culture or language of its own, but it can understand Common.

ECOLOGY

A needle blight is a parasitic plant that feeds on the blood and sap of living creatures. It does not need sunlight or water to survive, but it does need fresh prey to sustain itself. A needle blight can grow new needles from its body, but it cannot regenerate lost limbs or organs. A needle blight reproduces by spreading its seeds through its needles, which can infect other plants or animals and turn them into new blights. A needle blight has no natural predators, but it is often hunted by adventurers, druids, rangers, and other enemies of evil.
