ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The mummy can use its Dreadful Glare and makes one attack with its rotting fist.
  • Rotting Fist. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: (2d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage plus (3d6)necrotic damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be cursed with mummy rot. The cursed target can’t regain hit points, and its hit point maximum decreases by 10 (3d6) for every 24 hours that elapse. If the curse reduces the target’s hit point maximum to 0, the target dies, and its body turns to dust. The curse lasts until removed by the remove curse spell or other magic
  • Dreadful Glare. The mummy targets one creature it can see within 60 ft. of it. If the target can see the mummy, it must succeed on a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw against this magic or become frightened until the end of the mummy’s next turn. If the target fails the saving throw by 5 or more, it is also paralyzed for the same duration. A target that succeeds on the saving throw is immune to the Dreadful Glare of all mummies (but not mummy lords) for the next 24 hours.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A mummy is a type of undead creature that was once a living being, but was preserved and animated by dark funerary rituals. Mummies are usually wrapped in old strips of linen, damaged by rot and age, and carry a distinct aroma of the ingredients used in their creation. Mummies can be of any race or species, but most commonly they are humanoids. Mummies often wear the clothing and jewelry they had in life, which may indicate their social status or religious affiliation .

Mummies are native to dry desert areas, where the dead are entombed by a process known as mummification. When their tombs are disturbed, the corpses become animated into a weird unlife state, whose unholy hatred of life causes them to attack living things without mercy. Mummies are usually (but not always) clothed in rotting strips of linen. They stand between 5 and 7 feet tall and are supernaturally strong.

Mummies are the product of an embalming process used on wealthy and important personages. Most mummies are corpses without magical properties. On occasion, perhaps due to powerful evil magic or perhaps because the individual was so greedy in life that he refuses to give up his treasure, the spirit of the mummified person will not die, but taps into energy from the Positive Material plane and is transformed into an undead horror.

COMBAT

Mummies are slow but relentless foes, driven by a hatred for all living things. They attack with their rotting fists, which can inflict both physical and necrotic damage. Their touch can also curse their victims with mummy rot, a deadly affliction that prevents healing and gradually reduces the victim’s life force until they turn to dust . Mummies can also use their dreadful glare to instill fear and paralysis in their enemies, making them easier to strike down . Mummies are vulnerable to fire, which can burn away their wrappings and flesh, but they are resistant to nonmagical weapons and immune to necrotic and poison damage, as well as several conditions .

HABITAT / SOCIETY

Mummies live in their ancient burial chambers, usually in the heart of a crypt or pyramid. The tomb is a complex series of chambers filled with relics (mostly nonmagical). These relics include models of the mummy’s possessions, favorite items and treasures, the bodies of dead pets, and foodstuffs to feed the spirit after death. Particularly evil people will have slaves or family members slain when they die so the slaves can be buried with them. Because of their magical properties, mummies exist on both Prime and Positive Material planes.

Mummies guard these locations from intruders, especially those who seek to plunder their treasures or desecrate their remains. Mummies may serve a higher power, such as a god, a pharaoh, a mummy lord, or a lich, who commands them to protect a sacred site or a secret lore . Mummies may also have personal goals or vendettas that motivate them to seek out specific enemies or locations. Some mummies may even retain some of their memories and personality from their previous life.

ECOLOGY

Mummies are unnatural creatures that defy the cycle of life and death. They do not need to eat, drink, breathe, or sleep, but they may still crave these things as a reminder of their former existence. Mummies do not reproduce, but they can create more of their kind by performing the same rituals that animated them on other corpses. To create a mummy, a corpse should be soaked in a preserving solution (typically carbonate of soda) for several weeks and covered with spices and resins. Body organs, such as the heart, brain, and liver, are typically removed and sealed in jars. Sometimes gems are wrapped in the cloth (if the treasure listing for the mummy indicates it possesses gems, a few may be placed in the wrappings).

Mummies have a negative impact on the environment, as their presence can spread diseases, curses, and corruption. Mummies are hated and feared by most living beings, who see them as abominations and threats . Mummy dust is a component for rotting and disease magical items. Mummies have no natural enemies, but they may face adventurers who seek to destroy them or claim their treasures.
