    • Tentacle. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 12) if it is a Medium or smaller creature. Until this grapple ends, the sea spawn can’t use this tentacle on another target.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

Sea Spawn

Sea spawn are humanoids that have been transformed into hybrid marine creatures by powerful aquatic entities. They are twisted and corrupted by the dark magic of the sea, and serve their masters with fanatical loyalty. Sea spawn are not undead, but they have never been allowed to die.

Description

Sea spawn have a ghastly piscine appearance that resembles their original form. Barnacles and coral are encrusted on their cold skin. Their warped bodies are horrific combinations of marine features crossed with humanoid bodies, sometimes one feature, sometimes many. Tentacle arms, cephalopod eyes, urchin spines, whale fins, and seaweed hair are but some of the terrifying mutations hosted by unfortunate sea spawn .

Sea spawn are incapable of speech, although they can still understand language. They have darkvision up to 120 feet, allowing them to see in the murky depths of the ocean. They can breathe air and water, but they need to be submerged in the sea at least once a day for 1 minute to avoid suffocating.

Many of the stories sung as sea shanties and passed on as tales in dockside taverns tell of people lost to the sea-but not merely drowned and gone. These unfortunates are taken by the ocean and live on as sea spawn, haunting the waves like tortured reflections of their former selves. Tales provide myriad reasons for these strange transformations.

“Be wary of falling in love with a sea elf or a merfolk,” some say. “Return to port before a storm, no matter how tempting the catch.” “Honor the sea gods as they demand, but never promise them your heart.” Such cautionary tales disguise the deeper truth: things lurk beneath the waves that strive to claim the hearts and minds of land dwellers.

Combat

Sea spawn are fierce and relentless fighters, who obey the commands of their masters without question. They usually attack in groups, using their natural weapons and their piscine anatomy to overwhelm their enemies. Sea spawn have one or more of the following attack options, provided they have the appropriate anatomy:

  • Bite. The sea spawn has a shark-like bite that can inflict piercing damage.
  • Claw. The sea spawn has a crab-like claw that can inflict slashing damage.
  • Quill. The sea spawn has a sea urchin-like quill that can inflict piercing damage and poison.
  • Slam. The sea spawn has a whale-like fin that can inflict bludgeoning damage and knock prone.
  • Tentacle. The sea spawn has an octopus-like tentacle that can inflict bludgeoning damage and grapple.

Sea spawn are vulnerable to radiant damage, as they are creatures of darkness and corruption. They are also susceptible to psychic damage, as their minds are weak and enslaved.

Habitat / Society

Sea spawn can be found in any aquatic environment, from the depths of the ocean to the shores of the coast. They usually dwell in caves, shipwrecks, or underwater ruins, where they guard the secrets and treasures of their masters. Sea spawn are often accompanied by other aquatic creatures, such as sharks, eels, or sahuagin, who serve the same master or are allied with them .

Sea spawn are created by many nefarious masters of the deep, who can enthrall and transform an unfortunate mortal into a minion. Some do so after making a pact with the mortal, while others merely curse them. Dragon turtles, krakens, marids, morkoths, sea hags, storm giants, and a host of other seafaring powers hold the ability to mark and claim a mortal as a sea spawn.

Transformation into a sea spawn is not necessarily immediate or quick, instead potentially lasting throughout an individual’s life. Their physical transformation also does not necessarily precede their mental changes either, with some being bewitched long before the physical signs were evident.

Sea spawn have no culture or society of their own, as they are completely devoted to their masters. They have no sense of self or free will, and find joy in their enslavement. They are cruel and sadistic, and enjoy tormenting and killing their enemies .

Ecology

Sea spawn are unnatural and aberrant creatures, who have no place in the natural order of things. They are parasites, who feed on the life force of their victims. They have no reproduction or life cycle, as they are created by magic and sustained by their masters. They have no allies or enemies, except those of their masters. They have no purpose or goal, except to serve their masters .

Sea spawn are a menace to the seas and the lands, as they spread the corruption and tyranny of their masters. They are enemies of all living things, especially those who oppose their masters. They are feared and hated by sailors, fishermen, coastal dwellers, and adventurers, who often encounter them in their travels. Sea spawn are a challenge and a threat, who must be fought and destroyed.
