The Lost has advantage on the first melee attack it makes before the end of its turn after teleporting in this way. The Lost can use this feature to avoid opportunity attacks and to bypass obstacles or enemies.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The Lost makes four arm spike attacks.
  • Arm Spike. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d10 + 3) piercing damage.
  • Embrace. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to it, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 25 (4d10 + 3) piercing damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 14) if it is a Medium or smaller creature. Until the grapple ends, the target is frightened, and it takes 27 (6d8) psychic damage at the end of each of its turns. The Lost can embrace only one creature at a time.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

The Lost are twisted creatures that were once human, but have been corrupted by the dark magic of the Shadowfell. They wander the lands in search of prey, driven by a hunger that can never be satisfied. The Lost have pale skin, sunken eyes, and sharp teeth. They wear tattered clothes and armor, and wield crude weapons. They have no memory of their former lives, and no sense of self. They are only aware of their endless hunger and their loyalty to their master, the Spider.

The Shadowfell turns visitors around until they become marooned in its twisted landscape. The Lost are representations of the anxiety and fear that people experience when they can’t find their way. These sorrowsworn appear as desperate and panicked things.

COMBAT

The Lost are cunning and ruthless in combat. They prefer to ambush their enemies from the shadows, using stealth and surprise to gain an advantage. They often work in groups, coordinating their attacks and flanking their foes. They are not afraid of death, and will fight to the last breath. The Lost have a natural resistance to physical damage while in dim light or darkness, making them harder to kill. They also have a keen sense of smell, and can track their prey by scent.

The Lost have a special ability called Shadow Step, which allows them to teleport from one shadow to another as a bonus action. They use this ability to move quickly and unpredictably on the battlefield, avoiding attacks and striking from unexpected angles. They can also use this ability to escape if they are outnumbered or outmatched.

The Lost try to embrace any creatures they can reach, attempting to find solace in the contact. Aside from the horror of being embraced by such a thing, the victim experiences a flood of fear and panic as its mind buckles under the fury of this assault. The harder the victims’ allies fight for release, the worse the experience becomes.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

The Lost dwell in dark and desolate places, such as ruins, caves, swamps, and forests. They avoid sunlight and bright light, as it causes them pain and discomfort. They are nomadic, following the orders of the Spider, who sends them on missions across the lands. The Spider is a mysterious figure who commands the Lost through telepathy. He is the one who created them, using a ritual that involves sacrificing a human to a portal to the Shadowfell. The Spider’s motives are unknown, but he seems to have a vendetta against civilization and order.

The Lost have no culture or society of their own. They are mindless drones who obey the Spider without question. They have no emotions, no morals, no goals, and no friends. They only care about feeding their hunger and serving their master. They do not communicate with each other, except for simple signals and gestures. They do not have names, only numbers that identify their rank and role in the Spider’s army.

ECOLOGY

The Lost are predators who feed on living creatures. They have an insatiable appetite that drives them to hunt constantly. They do not discriminate between animals and humanoids, as long as they are fresh and warm. They prefer to eat their prey alive, tearing them apart with their teeth and claws. They do not cook or preserve their food, nor do they store or share it with others. They consume everything they can, leaving nothing behind but bones and blood.

The Lost have no natural enemies, except for those who oppose the Spider’s plans. They are feared and hated by most people, who see them as monsters and abominations. Some adventurers and bounty hunters seek to destroy them, either for justice or for profit. The Lost also face competition from other creatures of the night, such as vampires, werewolves, and undead.

The Lost have no impact on the environment, as they do not build or modify anything. They leave no traces of their presence, except for corpses and carnage. They do not reproduce or grow old, as they are immortal unless killed by violence or magic.
