Drone. The chasme produces a horrid droning sound to which demons are immune. Any other creature that starts its turn with in 30 feet of the chasme must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or fall unconscious for 10 minutes. A creature that can’t hear the drone automatically succeeds on the save. The effect on the creature ends if it takes damage or if another creature takes an action to splash it with holy water. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, it is immune to the drone for the next 24 hours .

Gate (suggested). Once per day the chasme can gate one of following allies:

Innate Spellcasting (suggested). The chasme’s innate spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 15 ). The chasme can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

Magic Resistance. The chasme has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Spider Climb. The chasme can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Terror (suggested). Anyone viewing a chasme must make a successful DC 13 charisma saving throw or suffer the frightened condition.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack (suggested). The chasme makes three attacks: two with its claws and one with its proboscis
  • Proboscis. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 16 (4d6 + 2) piercing damage plus 24 (7d6) necrotic damage, and the target’s hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the necrotic damage taken. If this effect reduces a creature’s hit point maximum to 0, the creature dies. This reduction to a creature’s hit point maximum lasts until the creature finishes a long rest or until it is affected by a spell like greater restoration.
  • Claw (suggested). Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 30 (8d6 + 2) slashing damage. When a claw hits it cause the wound to bleed profusely causing 2 bleeding damage per round until healed by magical means.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A chasme is a wretched and horrifying creature that resembles a cross between a human and a giant fly. It has the body of a fly, with four spindly legs and a pair of translucent wings, but its head is vaguely human, with sunken eyes, a hooked nose, and a mouth full of sharp teeth. Its arms are human-like, but end in claws that can rend flesh and bone. A chasme’s skin is mottled green and black, and its body is covered in coarse hairs. A chasme emits a foul odor that can sicken those who come too close . A chasme can walk on floors, walls, and ceilings as it wishes.

COMBAT

A chasme is a cunning and sadistic hunter that enjoys tormenting its prey before killing it. It uses its fly-like abilities to maneuver in the air, avoiding attacks and striking from unexpected angles. A chasme’s most potent weapon is its horrid droning sound, which can lull enemies into a deep sleep or even kill them outright. Demons are immune to this effect, but other creatures must resist it or fall victim to the chasme’s claws and proboscis . A chasme can also spit acid at its foes, causing severe burns and blinding them. A chasme is resistant to cold, fire, lightning, and poison, and immune to being poisoned . It can see in the dark and communicate telepathically with other demons .

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A chasme is native to the Abyss, the chaotic evil plane of existence where demons dwell. It can be found in various layers of the Abyss, but prefers those that are dark, fetid, and full of decay. A chasme serves the demon lord Graz’zt, who grants it power and tasks it with hunting down other demons that evade participation in the Blood War, the eternal conflict between demons and devils. A chasme is loyal to Graz’zt, but otherwise has no regard for other demons or creatures. It is solitary and territorial, and will attack anyone who intrudes on its domain .

A chasme acts as the punisher of the tanar’ri, a subrace of demons. It travels the Abyss to punish those who do not fight in the Blood War. This punishment is, of course, lingering, painful death. How the chasme spot Blood War evaders is a mystery. Although tanar’ri as a race are not psychically aware, perhaps these creatures have a psychic power that lets them read the thoughts or emotions of tanar’ri. If this ability extends to non-tanar’ri (a matter for speculation), these monsters would indeed be fearsome opponents. In return for this duty, the chasme avoid going to the “front lines” to fight in combat formations. Instead they fill those ranks with other hapless tanar’ri. This makes them extremely unpopular among the tanar’ri, who often attack chasme on sight. Only their power and the backing of Graz’zt protect the chasme from annihilation. Note, however, that the destructive activities of the chasme do not affect the war effort, for the fiends of the Abyss are nearly infinite.

ECOLOGY

A chasme is a fiendish creature that feeds on the life force of living beings. It uses its proboscis to pierce the skin of its prey and suck out their blood and essence. A chasme can also consume carrion and rotting flesh, but prefers fresh meat. A chasme does not need to eat often, as it can sustain itself on the energy of the Abyss. A chasme does not reproduce naturally, but is created by the will of Graz’zt or other powerful demons. A chasme has no natural predators, except for other demons that may challenge it for territory or resources .
