Rancid Degeneration. At the end of each of the troll’s turns, each creature within 5 feet of it takes 11 (2d10) necrotic damage, unless the troll has taken acid or fire damage since the end of its last turn.

Rancid Degeneration (suggested). At the end of each of the troll’s turns, each creature within 5 feet of it takes 11 (2d10) necrotic damage, and the troll regenerates an equal amount of hit points, unless the troll has taken acid or fire damage since the end of its last turn. This ability reflects the rot troll’s ability to feed on the life force of others and use it to heal its own decaying flesh.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A rot troll is a horrific creature that has been corrupted by necrotic energy, causing its flesh to decay and fall off its body. A rot troll’s skin is covered with patches of exposed bone, rotting organs, and oozing wounds. Its eyes are sunken and dull, and its teeth are blackened and jagged. A rot troll emits a foul stench of death and decay, and a cloud of flies and maggots surrounds it. A rot troll is larger than a normal troll, standing about 12 feet tall and weighing over 1,000 pounds.

COMBAT

A rot troll is a savage and relentless fighter, using its claws and bite to tear apart its enemies. A rot troll’s wounds do not heal as quickly as those of a normal troll, but it still possesses some degree of regeneration. However, a rot troll’s regeneration is hampered by acid or fire damage, which causes its flesh to burn or dissolve. A rot troll also has a unique ability to channel the necrotic energy within it, creating a deadly aura that harms any creature near it. This aura can be suppressed if the rot troll takes acid or fire damage, but it resumes at the end of the rot troll’s next turn. A rot troll is immune to necrotic damage, as it feeds on the life force of others.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A rot troll is usually a solitary creature, as it is shunned by other trolls and most living beings. A rot troll can be found in places where death and decay are prevalent, such as swamps, graveyards, battlefields, or dungeons. A rot troll does not have any preferences for food, as it can consume any organic matter, even if it is rotten or diseased. A rot troll does not have any culture or language of its own, but it can understand Giant and some Common words. A rot troll is driven by a primal hunger and hatred for life, and it will attack any creature that crosses its path.

ECOLOGY

A rot troll is a product of a rare and unnatural phenomenon, when a normal troll is exposed to intense waves of necrotic energy while regenerating from severe injuries. This can happen when a troll regenerates near sources of magical emanations, planar energy, disease, or death. The necrotic energy alters the troll’s physiology and psychology, making it more powerful but also more monstrous. A rot troll does not reproduce in any conventional way, but it can create more of its kind by infecting other trolls with its necrotic aura. A rot troll is an ecological disaster, as it spreads disease and decay wherever it goes.
