Innate Spellcasting (Psionics). The githyanki’s innate spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 16, +8 to hit with spell attacks). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no components:

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The githyanki makes two greatsword attacks.
  • Silver Greatsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d6 + 7) slashing damage plus 17 (2d6) psychic damage. On a critical hit against a target in an astral body (as with the astral projection spell), the githyanki can cut the silvery cord that tethers the target to its material body, instead of dealing damage.

REACTIONS

  • Parry. The githyanki adds 5 to its AC against one melee attack that would hit it. To do so, the githyanki must see the attacker and be wielding a melee weapon.

LEGENDARY ACTIONS

The githyanki can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The githyanki regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

  • Attack (2 Actions). The githyanki makes a greatsword attack.
  • Command Ally. The githyanki targets one ally it can see within 30 feet of it. If the target can see or hear the githyanki, the target can make one melee weapon attack using its reaction and has advantage on the attack roll.
  • Teleport. The githyanki magically teleports, along with any equipment it is wearing and carrying, to an unoccupied space it can see within 30 feet of it. It also becomes insubstantial until the start of its next turn. While insubstantial, it can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. If it ends its turn inside an object, it takes 16 (3d10) force damage and is moved to the nearest unoccupied
    space.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

The githyanki supreme commander is the leader of the githyanki armies, a race of humanoid warriors that dwell in the Astral Plane. The githyanki are the descendants of an ancient people who rebelled against their mind flayer overlords and split into two factions: the githyanki and the githzerai. The githyanki supreme commander is a formidable warrior and a master of psionics, wielding a silver greatsword that can sever the connection between an astral traveler and their material body. The supreme commander is also a loyal servant of Vlaakith, the lich-queen of the githyanki, who grants them powerful spells and a red dragon mount.

COMBAT

The githyanki supreme commander is a fearsome opponent in combat, using their innate psionic abilities and spells to enhance their mobility, defense, and offense. They can cast spells such as Bigby’s hand, mass suggestion, plane shift, and telekinesis, as well as jump, levitate, misty step, and nondetection at will. They can also use their psionic power to create an invisible mage hand that can manipulate objects or deliver touch spells. The supreme commander’s most deadly weapon is their silver greatsword, which can deal massive slashing and psychic damage, as well as cut the silvery cord of an astral traveler, killing them instantly. The supreme commander can also parry incoming melee attacks with their greatsword, adding to their already high armor class. In addition, the supreme commander can take legendary actions at the end of another creature’s turn, such as making another greatsword attack, commanding an ally to attack with advantage, or teleporting to an unoccupied space and becoming insubstantial until their next turn. The supreme commander usually fights from the back of their red dragon mount, which can breathe fire and fly through the Astral Plane.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

The githyanki supreme commander lives in the Astral Plane, a realm of thought and dreams where time does not flow and gravity does not exist. The githyanki have conquered several dead gods and astral citadels, where they build their fortresses and cities. The supreme commander leads one of these cities, commanding ten kith’raks, who in turn lead ten sarths, who in turn lead ten warriors each. The supreme commander answers only to Vlaakith, the lich-queen of the githyanki, who resides in Tu’narath, the largest githyanki city built on the corpse of a dead god. The supreme commander is loyal to Vlaakith and her vision of restoring the glory of the githyanki race. The supreme commander also oversees the training and education of the githyanki children, who are taken from their parents at a young age and sent to special academies where they learn martial and psionic skills. The supreme commander also leads raids on other planes, especially the Material Plane, where they hunt for slaves, treasure, and enemies.

ECOLOGY

The githyanki supreme commander is a humanoid creature that does not age or need to eat or sleep in the Astral Plane. However, they still need to return to the Material Plane periodically to maintain their vitality and fertility. The supreme commander is usually accompanied by a red dragon mount, which they obtain through a pact with Tiamat, the evil goddess of chromatic dragons. The pact allows the githyanki to take red dragon eggs from Tiamat’s lair in Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells, and raise them as their own. The red dragons grow up loyal to their githyanki riders and serve them until death. The supreme commander also has access to other creatures that serve the githyanki, such as astral dreadnoughts, mind flayer thralls, neogi slavers, and slaad mercenaries. The supreme commander’s main enemies are the mind flayers, or illithids, who once enslaved the githyanki and still pose a threat to their existence. The supreme commander also has a rivalry with the githzerai, the other faction of the gith race that chose a path of peace and enlightenment over war and conquest.
