ACTIONS

  • Fist. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d4 + 4) bludgeoning damage.
  • Chain Sweep. The ogre swings its chain, and every creature within 10 feet of it must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed saving throw, a creature takes 8 (1d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage and is knocked prone. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn’t knocked prone.
  • Chain Smash (Recharge 6). Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or be knocked unconscious for 1 minute. The unconscious target repeats the saving throw if it takes damage and at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

An ogre chain brute is a large and muscular giant that wields a massive spiked chain as its weapon of choice. It has grayish-green skin, yellow eyes, and a mouth full of jagged teeth. It wears a crude hide armor that barely covers its body. It is not very intelligent, but it is cunning and ruthless in combat. It enjoys inflicting pain and suffering on its enemies, and often collects trophies from its victims.

COMBAT

An ogre chain brute is a formidable opponent in melee combat, using its chain to strike at multiple foes at once or to smash a single target with devastating force. It can swing its chain in a wide circle around itself, knocking down anyone who gets too close. It can also slam its chain down with such power that it is almost impossible to block or dodge. An ogre chain brute is not afraid of taking damage, and will often charge into the fray without regard for its own safety. It is not very agile, however, and can be outmaneuvered by faster or more nimble opponents.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

An ogre chain brute usually lives in small bands of other ogres, often serving as the leader or the enforcer of the group. It prefers to dwell in mountainous or hilly regions, where it can raid nearby settlements or travelers for food and loot. It is not very loyal to its fellow ogres, and will often bully or betray them for its own benefit. It has no respect for other races, and will attack anyone who crosses its path. It is especially hostile to humans, elves, dwarves, and halflings, whom it considers weak and inferior.

ECOLOGY

An ogre chain brute is a carnivorous creature that feeds on any meat it can find, whether from animals or humanoids. It has a voracious appetite, and will often eat more than it needs. It has no regard for the natural balance of the environment, and will often hunt or destroy any wildlife it encounters. It has few natural predators, but it may face competition from other giants, such as hill giants or stone giants. It may also encounter resistance from civilized races, such as adventurers or soldiers, who seek to protect their lands from its raids.
