5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

Drow inquisitors are fanatical agents of Lolth, the Spider Queen, who enforce her will and root out her enemies among the drow. They are chosen from the ranks of the priesthood, and their authority is equaled only by that of the drow matron mothers of the noble houses. Anyone they decide is at odds with the hierarchy faces painful interrogation and usually an excruciating death.

Drow inquisitors are usually female, as they are favored by Lolth over males. They wear black breastplates and cloaks, and carry a distinctive weapon called a death lance, which resembles a long metal rod with a sharp tip. The death lance can deliver powerful shocks of electricity to its victims, as well as channel the inquisitor’s spells.

Drow inquisitors have dark skin, white hair, and red eyes that glow with malice. They have a keen sense of hearing and can discern when someone is lying to them. They also have innate magical abilities, such as creating darkness, levitating, and summoning demons. They are resistant to magic and immune to fear.

COMBAT

Drow inquisitors are ruthless and relentless in combat. They use their death lances to strike at their foes from a distance, delivering jolts of electricity that can stun or kill. They also use their spells to enhance their abilities, such as casting clairvoyance to spy on their enemies, dispel magic to counteract their defenses, or suggestion to manipulate their minds.

Drow inquisitors are not afraid to fight dirty, using their darkness and stealth skills to gain an advantage over their opponents. They often target the most vulnerable or influential members of a group, such as healers, leaders, or spellcasters. They also enjoy torturing their captives, using their death lances or other methods to inflict pain and extract information.

Drow inquisitors are loyal to Lolth and will not hesitate to sacrifice themselves or others for her sake. They sometimes summon yochlols, spider-like demons that serve as Lolth’s messengers and agents. The yochlols obey the inquisitors’ commands and fight alongside them until they are dismissed or destroyed.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

Drow inquisitors live in the Underdark, a vast network of caverns and tunnels that lies beneath the surface world. The Underdark is home to many dangers and wonders, such as monstrous creatures, ancient ruins, and exotic resources. The drow have carved out a civilization in the darkness, ruled by matriarchal noble houses that worship Lolth.

Drow inquisitors serve as Lolth’s eyes and ears among the drow society. They monitor the activities and loyalties of the noble houses, as well as other factions and individuals that might pose a threat or an opportunity for Lolth’s plans. They report their findings to the matron mothers or directly to Lolth herself through rituals or yochlols.

Drow inquisitors are feared and respected by most drow, who know better than to cross them or question their authority. However, some drow resent or oppose the inquisitors’ methods and motives, such as rebels, renegades, or followers of other gods. These drow often become targets of the inquisitors’ wrath and persecution.

ECOLOGY

Drow inquisitors are part of the complex and chaotic ecology of the Underdark. They interact with various creatures and races that inhabit the subterranean realm, such as duergar, svirfneblin, illithids, beholders, and dragons. Some of these interactions are hostile, while others are based on trade, alliance, or intrigue.

Drow inquisitors also affect the ecology of the surface world indirectly through their actions and schemes. They sometimes raid or infiltrate surface settlements for slaves, resources, or information. They also seek to advance Lolth’s agenda of spreading chaos and corruption among the surface races, especially the elves who are their ancient enemies.

Drow inquisitors have few natural predators or competitors in the Underdark, as they are well-armed and well-protected by their magic and allies. However, they face constant danger from Lolth herself, who tests their faith and loyalty through trials and tribulations. Those who fail or defy Lolth are often transformed into driders, half-spider abominations that are shunned and hunted by the drow.
