5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

Lizard kings and queens are lizardfolk who have been corrupted by the influence of the demon lord Sess’innek, who grants them fiendish power and appearance. They have red scales, horns, claws, and fangs, and radiate an aura of fear and malice. They often rule over tribes of normal lizardfolk, who worship them as divine emissaries of Sess’innek. Lizard kings and queens are cruel and ambitious, seeking to expand their domains and spread the worship of their demonic patron.

Lizard kings and queens are of above average height and intelligence, leading one or more loosely organized tribes of lizardfolk. They are most often armed with a great trident, which they wield with great skill and ferocity. If the attack roll is 5 or more greater than the score needed to hit, the lizard king or queen inflicts double damage (with a minimum of 15 points).

COMBAT

Lizard kings and queens are formidable foes in combat, using their natural weapons and tridents to skewer their enemies. They are adept at stealth and survival, and can hold their breath for a long time underwater. They also have some innate spellcasting ability, such as the power to charm person, cause fear, or summon more lizardfolk to their aid. They are immune to fear effects, and can inspire terror in their opponents with their frightful presence.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

Lizard kings and queens usually dwell in marshy or swampy areas, where they can easily hide and hunt. They prefer warm climates, but can adapt to colder ones if necessary. They are the absolute rulers of their tribes, demanding obedience and tribute from their subjects. They often enslave other races, such as humans, elves, or dwarves, and use them as laborers, sacrifices, or food. They have a strong hatred for dragons, especially those of metallic colors, and will attack them on sight. They also despise other reptilian races, such as yuan-ti or kobolds, who do not follow Sess’innek.

A lizard king or queen usually demands two humans each week. If no humans are available, demihumans and other humanoids will be sought. If none are available, two of the lizard king or queen’s bodyguards will be killed and eaten instead.

ECOLOGY

Lizard kings and queens are predators, who feed on meat and fish. They have a fast metabolism, and need to eat frequently to sustain their energy. They are also highly reproductive, and can mate with any humanoid or reptilian creature. Their offspring are always lizardfolk, but may inherit some of the fiendish traits of their parents. Lizard kings and queens have a lifespan of about 60 years, but may live longer if they receive more power from Sess’innek.
