Innate Spellcasting. The slaad’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 13). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

Magic Resistance. The slaad has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Regeneration. The slaad regains 10 hit points at the start of its turn if it has at least 1 hit point.

Shapechanger. The slaad can use its action to polymorph into a Medium or Small humanoid or back into its true form. Its statistics are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn’t transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The slaad makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.
  • Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d8 + 4) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) necrotic damage.
  • Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage plus 7 (2d6) necrotic damage.
  • Spit Acid (reaction). Ranged Attack: +7 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 24 (4d8 + 3) acid damage.

LEGENDARY ACTIONS

The slaad can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The slaad regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

  • Attack. The slaad makes one bite attack or one claw attack.
  • Cast a Spell (Costs 2 Actions). The slaad casts a spell from its innate spell list using a spell slot as normal.
  • Move. The slaad moves up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

REACTIONS

When a creature within 30 feet of the slaad hits it with a melee attack, the slaad can use its reaction to spit acid at that creature as a bonus action.

LAIR ACTIONS

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the slaad takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the slaad can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • The slaad creates a pool of acid in a space within 30 feet of it that is no larger than a 10-foot cube. The pool lasts until initiative count 20 on the next round or until someone uses an action to end it.
  • The slaad creates an area of darkness in a space within 30 feet of it that is no larger than a 10-foot cube. The darkness spreads around corners and lasts until initiative count 20 on the next round or until someone uses an action to end it.
  • The slaad creates an area of entropic energy in a space within 30 feet of it that is no larger than a 10-foot cube. Each creature in that space must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or take

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A white slaad is a rare and powerful type of slaad, a frog-like creature of chaos that inhabits the planes of Limbo. A white slaad is the result of a death slaad, a lesser master of chaos, undergoing a long and painful transformation. A death slaad can live for up to a hundred years, but only if it kills enough victims to feed its hunger for chaos. If it fails to do so, it slowly loses its sanity and becomes more chaotic and violent. A death slaad that survives for a hundred years will begin to change its appearance, growing larger, more muscular, and more colorful. Its skin will turn white, its eyes will glow red, and its gemstone will become larger and more intricate. This process continues for another century, until the death slaad becomes a white slaad.

A white slaad is still loyal to its original master, but it has gained more power and influence over the other slaads. It can communicate telepathically with any other slaad within 100 miles, and it can sense the presence of other sources of chaos in the planes. It can also create small areas of darkness that last until initiative count 20 on the next round or until someone uses an action to end them. A white slaad is extremely aggressive and territorial, and it will attack any intruder or rival with its claws, teeth, or magic.

COMBAT

A white slaad is a formidable opponent in combat, as it has many advantages over most creatures. It is much larger than an average human or humanoid, standing at about 10 feet tall and weighing over 500 pounds. It has thick scales that protect it from most physical attacks, and sharp claws that can tear through flesh and metal. It has wide mouths filled with pointed teeth that can bite through bones and armor. It has huge heads that contain powerful jaws and eyes that can see in the dark.

A white slaad’s most dangerous weapon is its gemstone, which is embedded in its forehead and shares its color. The gemstone contains symbols that represent the slaad’s past deeds, such as kills, conquests, duels, etc. These symbols are unique to each individual slaad, and they can be used to identify them by other slaads or by their enemies. The gemstone also serves as a source of chaos magic for the white slaad, allowing it to cast spells such as darkness, confusion, fear, etc.

A white slaad’s main weakness is its arrogance and overconfidence. It believes itself to be superior to all other creatures in terms of power and chaos potential. It often underestimates its foes or taunts them before attacking. It also tends to act impulsively or recklessly, leaving itself vulnerable to traps or ambushes.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A white slaad lives in Limbo, the plane of endless planes where all things are possible but nothing makes sense. Limbo is a chaotic realm where reality shifts constantly and unpredictably. A white slaad adapts well to this environment by using its senses of sight and hearing to navigate through the shifting landscapes.

A white slaad does not form any social bonds with other creatures in Limbo. It sees them as either prey or rivals for chaos potential. However, it does have some respect for other powerful beings that share its chaotic nature or oppose its enemies. These include other slaads of different colors (such as black, blue, green, etc.), some githyanki (a race of warriors who worship chaos), some mind flayers (a race of psionic parasites who seek knowledge), some beholders (a race of floating eye monsters who create art), etc.

A white slaad does not have any allies or friends among these beings either. It only cooperates with them when necessary or beneficial for itself. It does not trust them or care about them beyond their usefulness.

ECOLOGY

A white slaad is a chaotic predator that feeds on the energy and potential of other creatures or sources in Limbo. It roams the plane of endless planes, looking for anything that can provide it with more chaos. It enjoys hunting down large and powerful beings such as dragons, giants, elementals, etc., but it will also attack smaller and weaker ones such as rats, birds, insects, etc., if they are easy enough to catch.

A white slaad also feeds on the chaos that comes from other planes through portals or rifts that connect Limbo with other locations in existence. These portals are rare and unpredictable events that occur randomly throughout time and space. A white slaad can sense these portals and use them to travel to other planes where it can find more chaos. However, it is not very loyal or respectful to the planes it visits, and it often causes havoc and destruction wherever it goes.
