5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

Lizardfolk are savage, semi-aquatic, reptilian humanoids that live in swamps, marshes, and jungles. They have scaly skin, clawed hands and feet, and long tails. Their coloration ranges from dark green to gray to brown, sometimes with darker spots or stripes. They have sharp teeth and a powerful bite, as well as a keen sense of smell and excellent swimming abilities. Lizardfolk warriors are the most common and skilled fighters among their kind, wielding spears, clubs, javelins, and shields made from wood, bone, or metal. They are fierce and cunning in combat, using their natural weapons and their environment to their advantage.

Lizardfolk garb is limited to strings of bones and other barbaric ornaments. They speak their own language, which consists of hisses, growls, and gestures. Males are nearly impossible to distinguish from females without close inspection.

COMBAT

Lizardfolk warriors are proficient in both melee and ranged combat, using a variety of weapons to suit different situations. They can make two attacks in one round, each with a different weapon, such as a bite and a club, or a javelin and a tail. Their bite is especially dangerous, as it can inflict bleeding wounds and grant them temporary hit points. Their shields are also spiked, allowing them to deal extra damage with a shield bash.

Lizardfolk warriors are not afraid to fight dirty, using tactics such as ambushes, traps, feints, and retreats. They often fight in groups, coordinating their attacks and supporting each other. They are also adept at fighting in water, holding their breath for up to 15 minutes and moving swiftly through the murky depths. They can use their tails to propel themselves or to trip or grapple their enemies.

In combat, lizardfolk fight as unorganized individuals. If they have equality or an advantage over their opponents, they tend toward frontal assaults and massed rushes. When outnumbered, overmatched, or on their home ground, however, they become wily and ferocious opponents. Snares, sudden ambushes, and spoiling raids are favored tactics in these situations. While individually savage in melee, lizardfolk tend to be distracted by food (such as slain opponents) and by simple treasures, which may allow some of their quarry to escape. They occasionally take prisoners as slaves, for food, or to sacrifice in obscure tribal rites.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

Lizardfolk live in tribal communities that are usually isolated from other races. They are territorial and distrustful of outsiders, often attacking intruders on sight or demanding tribute for passage. They have a primitive culture that values survival, strength, and tradition. They worship primal spirits of nature, such as the sun, the moon, the wind, and the water. They also revere dragons as their ancestors and patrons, sometimes forming alliances or servitude with them.

Lizardfolk society is hierarchical and divided into castes based on their roles and abilities. Warriors are the most respected and influential caste, followed by hunters, shamans, artisans, and workers. The leader of a tribe is usually the strongest warrior or the most powerful shaman. Lizardfolk have little concept of individuality or personal property; they share everything with their tribe and act for the common good.

Lizardfolk are omnivorous and opportunistic predators that hunt for food and resources in their surroundings. They prefer fresh meat, especially fish, reptiles, amphibians, and birds, but they will also eat plants, fruits, nuts, insects, and carrion. They have no qualms about eating sentient creatures or even their own kind if necessary. They use every part of their prey for food, clothing, tools, or weapons.

Lizardfolk are cold-blooded and need to bask in the sun to regulate their body temperature. They also need to stay moist to prevent their skin from drying out. They are active during the day.and sleep at night in communal nests or burrows. They have a lifespan of about 60 years.

They sometimes come into conflict with other races that encroach on their territory or resources, such as humans, elves, dwarves, orcs or goblins. They rarely trade or cooperate with other races unless they have a common enemy or a mutual benefit.

ECOLOGY

Lizardfolk are an integral part of the ecosystems they inhabit, acting as both predators and prey. They help regulate the populations of other creatures, such as fish, reptiles, amphibians, and birds, and also provide food for larger predators, such as crocodiles and dragons. They also affect the vegetation and terrain of their habitats, clearing paths, digging burrows, and building dams or bridges. They have a symbiotic relationship with some plants and animals, such as algae, fungi, insects, and snakes, that provide them with camouflage, protection, or nourishment.

Lizardfolk are adaptable and resilient, able to survive in harsh and changing environments. They can endure floods, droughts, fires, and storms, as well as human encroachment and pollution. They are also capable of learning new skills and techniques from other races or sources, such as magic, technology, or religion. They have a strong sense of curiosity and exploration, often venturing into unknown or forbidden areas. They are also loyal and courageous, willing to defend their tribe and their home against any threat.
