Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

An Awakened Shrub is a plant that has been given life and intelligence by a powerful spell or other magic. It looks like a normal shrub, but it can move and communicate with other creatures. It usually speaks one language that its creator taught it, such as Common, Elvish, or Druidic. An Awakened Shrub can have different shapes and sizes, depending on the type of shrub it was before it was awakened. Some examples are holly, juniper, rose, or thorn bushes. An Awakened Shrub has a simple personality and a limited understanding of the world. It may be curious, friendly, loyal, or fearful, depending on how it was treated by its creator and other beings.

COMBAT

An Awakened Shrub is not a very formidable opponent in combat. It has a low armor class and hit points, and it is vulnerable to fire damage. It can only attack with its rake, which is a weak slashing attack that uses its branches and thorns. An Awakened Shrub may try to hide among other plants by remaining motionless, making it hard to spot. An Awakened Shrub may also try to flee or surrender if it is outnumbered or outmatched. An Awakened Shrub may fight for its creator, for its own survival, or for a cause that it believes in.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

An Awakened Shrub usually lives in the same environment that it grew in before it was awakened, such as a forest, a garden, or a park. It may stay close to its creator or wander around on its own. An Awakened Shrub may form bonds with other plants or animals that share its habitat. It may also interact with other intelligent creatures that it encounters, such as adventurers, villagers, or druids. An Awakened Shrub may have different goals and motivations, depending on its personality and history. Some examples are:

  • Protecting its creator or its home from threats.
  • Exploring the world and learning new things.
  • Seeking revenge against those who harmed it or its friends.
  • Finding a mate or a family of its own kind.

ECOLOGY

An Awakened Shrub is a living creature that needs water, sunlight, and nutrients to survive. It may also need pruning or trimming to maintain its shape and health. An Awakened Shrub does not produce seeds or fruits like a normal plant, but it can reproduce by cutting off a branch and planting it in the ground. The new branch will grow into another Awakened Shrub over time. An Awakened Shrub may also be affected by diseases or parasites that affect plants, such as blight, fungus, or insects. An Awakened Shrub may have natural enemies or predators that feed on plants, such as deer, rabbits, or goblins. An Awakened Shrub may also have allies or friends that help or protect it, such as birds, bees, or fairies.
