Corrode Wood. Any nonmagical weapon made of wood that hits the ooze corrodes. After dealing damage, the weapon takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to damage rolls. If its penalty drops to -5, the weapon is destroyed. Nonmagical ammunition made of metal that hits the ooze is destroyed after dealing damage. The ooze can eat through 2-inch-thick, nonmagical wood in 1 round.

ACTIONS

Pseudopod. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 +3) bludgeoning damage plus 7 (2d6) acid damage.

  • If the target is wearing nonmagical leather armor, its armor is partly corroded and takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to the ac it offers The armor is destroyed if the penalty reduces its AC to 10.
  • If the target is a creature other than an undead, it must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for 1 minute. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. While paralyzed the target is helpless and will be consumed by the crystal ooze in a short time, when reduced to -10 hit points, it is totally consumed.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A Crystal Ooze is a rare and dangerous creature that resembles a pool of clear water with faint white swirls. It is a mutated form of a Gray Ooze, a type of slime that can dissolve flesh, wood, and cloth with its acidic touch. A Crystal Ooze has adapted to living in aquatic environments, where it can easily ambush unsuspecting prey. It is almost invisible when immersed in water, and can sense vibrations and heat in the water. It has a rudimentary intelligence and can swim and climb on walls and ceilings.

COMBAT

A Crystal Ooze attacks by striking out like a snake, trying to paralyze and consume its target. Its touch is not corrosive, but poisonous, and can cause numbness and weakness in the victim. A Crystal Ooze can also engulf smaller creatures, suffocating them inside its body. A Crystal Ooze is immune to fire, cold, acid, and most forms of physical damage. Only magic and electricity can harm it effectively.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A Crystal Ooze prefers dark and murky pools of water, where it can blend in and avoid detection. It is a solitary creature, but may live alongside its offspring or other oozes. A Crystal Ooze reproduces by budding small pods that take about seven to ten days to hatch into new oozes. If food is scarce, a Crystal Ooze may eat its own young, but otherwise it does not harm them. A Crystal Ooze has no culture or society, and acts only on instinct.

ECOLOGY

A Crystal Ooze is an omnivorous scavenger that will eat almost anything organic, except metal or stone. It can digest flesh, wood, cloth, plants, fungi, and even other oozes. A Crystal Ooze has no natural predators, except perhaps other oozes or aquatic monsters. A Crystal Ooze may sometimes leave behind metal or stone items that it could not digest, which may attract adventurers or treasure hunters. A Crystal Ooze plays no beneficial role in the ecosystem, and is considered a menace by most living beings.
