Entropy Aura. The slaad emits an aura of entropy that affects creatures within 10 feet of it. Each creature in the aura must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw at the start of each of its turns. On a failed save, the creature takes 7 (2d6) necrotic damage and its hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the damage taken. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and its hit point maximum is not reduced. The reduction lasts until the end of the slaad’s next turn or until the creature finishes a long rest.

Void Form. The slaad can use a bonus action to polymorph into a Medium humanoid or back into its true form. Its statistics are the same in each form except for its size and speed. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn’t transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The slaad makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.
  • Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) necrotic damage.
  • Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage plus 7 (2d6) necrotic damage.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

The black slaad is a rare and powerful type of slaad, a frog-like creature that embodies the chaotic force of entropy. Unlike most slaadi, which have actual bodies and gemstones embedded in their skulls, the black slaad is simply a void of darkness that can take any shape. It has no fixed form, but rather adapts to its surroundings and enemies. It can be as large as a dragon or as small as a mouse, depending on its needs and preferences. Its skin is black as night, and its eyes are like stars that shine with malice. It has a long, prehensile tongue that can spit acid or deliver touch attacks, and sharp claws that can tear through flesh and metal. It also has a pair of wings that allow it to fly or glide through the air.

COMBAT

The black slaad is a formidable opponent in combat, as it possesses many abilities that make it hard to kill or capture. It can manipulate raw chaos, an unstable substance that can dissolve anything it touches. It can spit globs of chaos at its foes, or use its tongue to deliver touch attacks that cause severe damage and corruption. It can also create voids around itself or its enemies, creating areas of darkness where nothing can exist. These voids can suck in air, light, sound, and even life force, making it difficult for anyone to survive inside them. The black slaad can also teleport across the battlefield, appearing behind or above its enemies and striking them with surprise. It can also use its truesight ability to see through illusions and darkness.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

The black slaad is not native to any specific plane of existence, but rather wanders across the multiverse in search of chaos and destruction. It does not have any loyalty or allegiance to anyone or anything, except for its own amusement and curiosity. It does not form any lasting bonds or relationships with other creatures, unless they pose some challenge or threat to it. It does not have any social structure or hierarchy among itself, but rather acts on its own whims and impulses.

ECOLOGY

The black slaad feeds on chaos itself, as well as anything else that has potential for change or growth. It prefers to consume living beings that are complex and diverse, such as humans, elves, dwarves, dragons, etc., but will also eat plants, animals, minerals, artifacts, etc., if they are interesting enough. It does not discriminate between good or evil creatures, but rather sees them all as sources of chaos that it can corrupt or destroy. The black slaad reproduces by infecting other creatures with chaos essence through its touch or spit attacks. The infected creature will gradually transform into a black slaad over time until it dies or becomes too chaotic for the black slaad to control.
