5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
A violet fungus is a purplish mushroom that grows up to 7 feet tall and 3 feet wide. It has one to four long, thin stalks that protrude from its central mass and end in clusters of tiny spores. The spores are highly toxic and can cause severe necrosis on contact. A violet fungus uses root-like feelers to creep across cavern floors, seeking out organic matter to feed on . A violet fungus resembles a shrieker, a type of fungus that emits a loud scream when disturbed, and is usually found in their company. Shriekers are immune to the touch of violet fungi, and the two types of creatures complement each other’s existence.
COMBAT
A violet fungus is not very aggressive, but it will lash out at any creature that comes too close to it. It can make up to four rotting touch attacks with its stalks, each dealing necrotic damage to the target. The length of the stalks depends on the size of the fungus, ranging from one to four feet. The excretion from the stalks rots flesh in one round unless a successful saving throw vs. poison is rolled or a cure disease spell is used. A violet fungus is vulnerable to fire and radiant damage, as well as effects that cause blinding or deafening. It has no eyes or ears, but it can sense its surroundings with blindsight .
HABITAT / SOCIETY
A violet fungus can be found in dark and damp places, such as caves, dungeons, swamps, and forests. It often grows in clusters with other fungi, forming a fungal colony that can cover large areas. A violet fungus has no intelligence or social structure, but it will cooperate with other fungi to defend their territory from intruders. Some creatures, such as myconids and vegepygmies, cultivate violet fungi as a source of food or protection . Violet fungi favor rotted animal matter to grow upon.
ECOLOGY
A violet fungus is a decomposer that feeds on dead or dying organic matter. It breaks down the flesh and bones of its prey with its spores, absorbing the nutrients and leaving behind a rotting husk. A violet fungus reproduces by releasing spores into the air, which can travel long distances and infect new hosts. A violet fungus can also spread by growing new feelers from its base, creating new fungal bodies .
