Life Hunger. If a creature the Hungry can see regains hit points, the Hungry gains two benefits until the end of its next turn:
- It has advantage on attack rolls
- Its bite deals an extra 22 (4d10) necrotic damage on a hit.
ACTIONS
- Multiattack. The Hungry makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.
- Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8 + 4) piercing damage plus 13 (3d8) necrotic damage.
- Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage. If the target is Medium or smaller, it is grappled (escape DC 16) and restrained until the grapple ends. While grappling a creature, the Hungry can’t attack with its claws, but it can use its bonus action to tear the creature with its teeth, dealing an extra 9 (2d8) necrotic damage and draining 1d4 points of Constitution from the creature. The Hungry regains hit points equal to half the necrotic damage dealt this way.
5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
The Hungry is a horrid beast with grasping claws and yawning mouth, that does whatever is necessary to sate its appetite. It resembles a large, muscular humanoid with gray skin, black eyes, and sharp teeth. Its body is covered with scars and wounds from its constant hunger and aggression. The Hungry is driven by an insatiable appetite that compels it to hunt and devour anything that moves. It consumes all life and energy it encounters, stuffing its maw with flesh and drinking in its victims’ screams. It has no sense of morality or loyalty, and will attack even its own kind if it is hungry enough. The Hungry is feared by many adventurers and explorers, who often encounter it in dark and desolate places.
COMBAT
The Hungry is a formidable opponent in combat, as it can withstand a lot of damage and dish out even more. It prefers to fight in dim light or darkness, where it gains resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage. It uses its bite and claws to tear apart its prey, draining their life force with each hit. The Hungry can also sense the presence of living creatures within 60 feet of it, making it hard to escape or ambush. The Hungry is relentless in its pursuit of food, and will not stop until it is either satisfied or dead.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
The Hungry is a solitary creature that wanders the lands in search of prey. It does not have a fixed home or territory, but rather follows its hunger wherever it leads. The Hungry does not care about the consequences of its actions, and will often leave behind a trail of destruction and death. The Hungry does not communicate with other creatures, except to growl or roar when it is angry or hungry. The Hungry does not have any allies or enemies, as it sees everything as potential food.
ECOLOGY
The Hungry is a rare and unnatural creature that does not fit into any natural ecosystem. It is believed that The Hungry was created by a dark and twisted magic that corrupted a normal human into a monstrous being. The Hungry does not reproduce or age, but rather sustains itself by consuming the life force of others. The Hungry does not have any natural predators, as few creatures can match its strength and ferocity. The only way to stop The Hungry is to kill it, which is easier said than done.
