ACTIONS
- Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (3d10 + 6) piercing damage. If the target is a Medium or smaller creature, it is grappled (escape DC 16). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the temnodontosaurus can’t bite another target. The temnodontosaurus can swallow a creature that it is grappling by using a bonus action. A swallowed creature is blinded and restrained, has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the temnodontosaurus, and takes 18 (4d6 + 4) acid damage at the start of each of the temnodontosaurus’s turns. If the temnodontosaurus takes 30 damage or more on a single turn from a creature inside it, the temnodontosaurus must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw at the end of that turn or regurgitate all swallowed creatures, which fall prone in a space within 10 feet of the temnodontosaurus. If the temnodontosaurus dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse by using 15 feet of movement, exiting prone.
5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
The temnodontosaurus is a huge beast that resembles a dolphin, but with a long, narrow snout filled with many sharp teeth. It has a sleek, streamlined body covered with smooth, gray skin. Its eyes are large and dark, and its fins are powerful and flexible. It can grow up to 12 meters in length and weigh up to 4 tons.
COMBAT
The temnodontosaurus is a fast and agile predator that hunts in the open seas. It can swim up to 80 feet per round and can sense its prey with its blindsight. It attacks with its bite, which can inflict severe piercing damage and grapple and swallow a medium or smaller creature. A swallowed creature is blinded and restrained, and takes acid damage from the temnodontosaurus’s stomach. The temnodontosaurus can regurgitate a swallowed creature if it takes enough damage or if it dies.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
The temnodontosaurus lives in the warm and temperate waters of the Early Jurassic period, about 200 to 175 million years ago. It is a solitary hunter that roams the oceans in search of fish, squid, and other marine animals. It may occasionally encounter other temnodontosaurs, but it does not form any social bonds or cooperate with them. It is not territorial and will avoid larger or more dangerous creatures.
ECOLOGY
The temnodontosaurus is a top predator in its aquatic environment. It plays an important role in regulating the population of its prey and keeping the ecosystem balanced. It has few natural enemies, except for larger or more aggressive marine reptiles, such as pliosaurs or mosasaurs. It reproduces by laying eggs in shallow waters, where the hatchlings must fend for themselves. It has a lifespan of about 30 years.
