ACTIONS

  • Longsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 slashing damage.
  • Shortbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, range 40/160 ft., one target. Hit: 1 piercing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 1 minute. If its saving throw result is 5 or lower, the poisoned target falls unconscious for the same duration, or until it takes damage or another creature takes an action to shake it awake.
  • Heart Sight. The sprite touches a creature and magically knows the creature’s current emotional state. If the target fails a DC 10 Charisma saving throw, the sprite also knows the creature’s alignment. Celestials, fiends, and undead automatically fail the saving throw.
  • Invisibility. The sprite magically turns invisible until it attacks or casts a spell, or until its concentration ends (as if concentrating on a spell). Any equipment the sprite wears or carries is invisible with it.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A sprite is a tiny fey creature that resembles a miniature elf with insect-like wings. They have fair skin, pointed ears, and bright eyes that range from blue to green. Their hair is usually blond, brown, or red, and their wings can be of various colors, such as pink, purple, or yellow. Sprites are often dressed in leather armor and carry a longsword and a shortbow as weapons. They are very agile and can fly swiftly through the air. Sprites are also capable of turning invisible at will, making them hard to spot or catch. Humans often mistake sprites for butterflies at a distance, and it is guessed that the majority of forest creatures also think of the fair sprites in this way.

COMBAT

Sprites are not very fond of combat, preferring to avoid it if possible. They are more likely to use their stealth and invisibility to spy on intruders or enemies, rather than attack them directly. However, if provoked or threatened, sprites can be fierce fighters, using their poisoned arrows to incapacitate their foes. Sprites can also use their heart sight ability to discern the emotional state and alignment of a creature they touch. This helps them to judge whether a creature is friend or foe, and whether they should trust them or not. Sprites are very flighty, and find even elves much too serious about most woodland affairs. Only druids deal with sprites regularly. Some druids even receive a little of their training in the company of a few sprites. Most sprites love druids, for their neutral alignment and love for nature make them see the forest in much the same way. On rare occasions, sprites associate with rangers as well. Sprites are loosely tribal, electing the best warrior among the group (male or female) as the group spokesperson. This leader is recognized as the one who makes major decisions and bargains with druids and elves. Sprites rarely wait for their leader’s decision, often attacking an evil creature before the leader can issue any command.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

Sprites live in forests, especially those with abundant flowers and fruits. They often dwell in hollow trees, burrows, or nests made of leaves and twigs. Sprites are very social and form tight-knit communities with other sprites and fey creatures. They have a strong sense of loyalty and friendship, and will defend their homes and allies from any threat. Sprites are also very curious and playful, enjoying music, dancing, and games. They have a natural affinity for magic and nature, and often worship deities of the forest, such as Corellon Larethian or Titania . Sprites usually speak only their own language, common, and elven, but seem to get along with woodland mammals and other creatures anyway. They often communicate with them using their innate ability to speak Sylvan , and sometimes ride them as mounts or companions. Sprites keep watch on their fellow sprites, so they know who to invite to their frequent gatherings. A deserted meadow or glen is never empty for more than a decade before a new clan of sprites moves in.

ECOLOGY

Sprites are expert brewers of toxins, poisons, and antidotes. In particular, they favor a potent sleep poison with which they coat their arrows. They usually harvest the ingredients for these toxins in forests, even venturing into dangerous areas to find them, but are not above stealing some from hags’ gardens if extremely necessary. Sprite sleep ointment is concocted from forest mushrooms. The ointment must be left to cure in the sun for seven days. Sprites hollow out tree stumps to serve as containers for this rare substance. Sprites also collect nectar and honey from flowers and bees, which they use to make sweet wines and meads. Sprites are omnivorous, but prefer fruits, nuts, berries, and mushrooms over meat. Sprites have a symbiotic relationship with many animals and plants in the forest, such as birds, squirrels, rabbits, foxes, deer, flowers, trees, and vines. They often befriend other fey creatures, such as pixies, dryads, nymphs, satyrs, and centaurs. Sprites are generally good-natured and benevolent towards other creatures that respect nature and the fey. However, they can be mischievous and prankish towards those who are rude or harmful to them or their environment. Sprites have a special dislike for evil creatures such as undead, fiends, hags, goblins, orcs, and giants, and will often harass or attack them if they encounter them in their territory.
