5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
An amber golem is a construct made of solid amber, shaped into the form of a large feline, usually a lion or a tiger. It has a smooth and glossy surface that reflects light and makes it appear as if it is glowing from within. Amber golems are created by powerful spellcasters who infuse them with dark magic and bind them to their will. They are often used as guardians of ancient secrets and forbidden lore, such as the ones found in the Amber Temple of Barovia . Their semitranslucent amber bodies – often expertly carved – look particularly beautiful in repose.
COMBAT
An amber golem is a formidable opponent in combat, as it combines the strength and agility of a big cat with the durability and resistance of a stone golem. It can pounce on its prey, slashing with its sharp claws and biting with its powerful jaws. It can also roar with such force that it stuns nearby enemies, leaving them vulnerable to its attacks. An amber golem is immune to most forms of damage, except for adamantine weapons and spells that affect stone. It can also regenerate from any wounds it suffers, unless it is exposed to sunlight or fire, which weaken its magical essence. These constructs, which operate under the direct control of their creators, can obey simple commands but have very limited mental capabilities.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
Amber golems are solitary creatures that have no natural habitat or society of their own. They are created for a specific purpose and follow the commands of their creators without question. They are usually found in dark and secluded places, such as dungeons, tombs, or temples, where they guard valuable treasures or arcane secrets. They do not need to eat, sleep, or breathe, and they remain active until they are destroyed or their task is completed. Amber golems have no emotions or personality, and they do not communicate with other creatures, except to warn them away or threaten them with violence.
ECOLOGY
Amber golems have no impact on the natural ecology, as they are artificial beings that do not interact with the environment or other living things. They do not reproduce or create more of their kind, and they do not consume any resources or produce any waste. They are essentially animated statues that serve as tools or weapons for their creators. However, amber golems can have a negative effect on the magical ecology, as they are infused with dark and corrupting energies that can taint the surrounding area. They can also pose a danger to any adventurers or explorers who encounter them, as they will attack anyone who trespasses on their territory or tries to access their secrets.
The destruction of an amber golem causes the creature to shatter into many large shards of amber. All together, the pieces of amber weigh 300 to 600 lbs and are worth from 3,000 to 6,000 gold pieces.
