5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
Pixies are magical beings that live in the forests and meadows of the fantasy world. They are small and graceful, with a height of about 2 – 1/2 feet. Their appearance is similar to that of elves, but they have longer and more pointed ears. They also have delicate wings that shimmer like silver moths. Pixies dress in bright and colorful clothes, often adorned with a cap and a pair of shoes that curl up at the toes. They are known for their mischievous and playful nature, as well as their love for music and dancing. Pixies are friendly and helpful to other races, but they can also be easily offended or tricked by them.
COMBAT
Pixies are skilled fighters who use their small size and agility to their advantage. They carry sprite-sized swords and bows, which they wield with finesse and accuracy. They have a variety of arrows to choose from, depending on the situation. They can shoot them with advantage to the attack roll, thanks to their keen eyesight and stealth. The types of arrows they use are:
- Standard arrows: These are the most common arrows that pixies use. They deal normal damage to the target, piercing through armor and flesh.
- Sleep-arrows: These are special arrows that pixies use to incapacitate their enemies. They are coated with a magical substance that induces sleep upon contact. The target must make a saving throw or fall asleep for a number of rounds equal to the pixie’s level.
- War arrows: These are powerful arrows that pixies use to deal extra damage to their foes. They are enchanted with a spell that causes them to explode on impact, creating a blast radius of 10 feet. The target and any creature within the radius must make a saving throw or take fire damage equal to the pixie’s level plus the arrow’s damage.
- Harmless arrows: These are rare arrows that pixies use to communicate or distract their enemies. They do not deal any physical damage to the target, but they can carry a message, a sound, or a light effect. The pixie can choose what effect the arrow has when they shoot it.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
Pixies are creatures of nature that live in harmony with the forest. They make their homes in hidden caves, where they store their treasures and belongings. They often venture out to dance in the moonlight, accompanied by the sounds of crickets and frogs. They are fond of pranks and illusions, and they enjoy leading travelers astray or scaring them with their tricks. They use the expression “pixie-led” to refer to someone who has lost their way because of their magic.
Pixies have a strong sense of justice and morality, and they despise greed and selfishness. They like to test people’s character by offering them their treasure, which they usually acquire from misers or thieves. They use their illusion powers to convince them that something terrible will happen if they do not give away their wealth. If the person shows greed or fear, the pixies will torment them with more pranks until they give up. If the person shows generosity or humor, the pixies will reward them with a gift from their hoard.
Pixies live in a close-knit community of clans or families, each with a distinctive last name. They have a culture that resembles that of humans, but with more whimsy and fun. They celebrate festivals, weddings, births, and other occasions with music, dancing, and feasting. They are loyal to their kin and friends, and they will defend them from any threat. Pixies are friendly and curious about other races, but they can also be wary or mischievous towards them.
ECOLOGY
Pixies are creatures of nature that have a symbiotic relationship with the forest. They eat fruits and nectar from the plants, and in return they help them grow and flourish. They also protect the forest from any harm or danger, using their magic and skills. Pixies are very fond of flowers, especially roses, which they use to make perfumes and potions.
Pixies have a unique substance that they produce from their wings, called pixie dust. This dust has magical properties that can make things invisible or fly. Pixies use their dust to enhance their illusions, to escape from enemies, or to have fun. However, some people covet their dust for their own purposes, and they try to capture or kill pixies to obtain it. Crushing 50 pixie wings into a fine powder creates one dose of dust of disappearance, which can make a creature or an object invisible for a short time. Pixies are very offended and saddened by this practice, and they will seek revenge on anyone who harms them or their kin.
Pixie is employed as material component to empower the following spells:
Zardock’s Journal: Pixie Dust: A New Branch of Magic
Entry #14
Date: 8th of Klarmont, AC
Location: My private laboratory
I have been studying the pixie dust that I acquired from my encounter with the fey creatures in the forest. The dust is a fascinating substance, with a weird and exotic nature. It seems to be composed of tiny particles of magic, that can produce various effects when sprinkled on a living being. The effects range from harmless to harmful, from beneficial to detrimental, from amusing to terrifying. The dust can make someone fly, fall asleep, or become charmed by the pixie. It can also cause pain, confusion, or fear.
The mysterious way how the pixie dust works is beyond my comprehension. I have tried to analyze the dust with my arcane knowledge, but I have found no logical explanation for its properties. The dust does not seem to follow any of the known rules of magic, such as schools, components, or levels. The dust does not even require a pixie to cast a spell, it simply works by itself. The only thing that seems to influence the dust is the pixie’s intention and mood. The dust can be unpredictable and whimsical, just like the pixies themselves.
I suspect that covenant of pixies can create much more fearful magical effects when combining forces. I have heard stories of pixies working together to create powerful illusions, enchantments, or transmutations with their dust. I have also heard rumors of pixies using their dust to create new forms of life, such as plants, animals, or even other fey. I wonder what secrets and mysteries lie within the pixie dust, and what potential it has for magic.
I have concluded that pixie magic by means of the pixie dust belong to a completely new branch of spellcasting, as much as the hag’s magic and the death knight necromantic powers. Pixie magic is not something that can be learned or replicated by other beings, it is something that is innate and unique to the pixies. Pixie magic is a reflection of their nature and culture, their joy and sorrow, their love and hate. Pixie magic is a mystery that I will continue to explore and admire.
