5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
Neogi hatchlings are tiny aberrations that resemble a cross between a wolf spider and an eel. They have a head with reflective eyes that sits upon a long eel-like neck, and a hairy flattened abdomen with eight spider legs. They often dye their fur and tattoo their bodies as symbols of family and rank. Neogi hatchlings are born in large clutches of eggs, and they are fiercely competitive and cannibalistic. Only the strongest and most cunning survive to adulthood. Neogi hatchlings have an innate ability to control the minds of other creatures, which they use to enslave and devour them. They are ruthless, xenophobic, and greedy, and they view all other beings as either prey or property.
COMBAT
Neogi hatchlings are not very strong or durable, but they are agile and cunning. They prefer to attack in swarms, overwhelming their enemies with sheer numbers and mind control. They can bite with their venomous fangs, which can paralyze or kill their victims. They can also use their mind control ability to charm or frighten other creatures, or to force them to obey their commands. Neogi hatchlings are immune to being charmed or frightened themselves, and they cannot be put to sleep by magic. They are loyal to their masters, but they will not hesitate to betray or devour them if they sense weakness or opportunity.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
Neogi hatchlings live in far-flung locations on the Material Plane, as well as on the Astral Plane and the Ethereal Plane. They left their home world long ago to conquer and devour creatures in other realms. They travel in spaceships called deathspiders, which are shaped like giant spiders and can travel through space and different planes of existence. Neogi hatchlings serve as crew members on these ships, under the command of neogi adults and masters. Neogi society is based on a strict hierarchy of ownership and domination. The neogi hatchlings are the property of the neogi adults, who are the property of the neogi masters, who are the property of the neogi great old masters. The neogi also own various slaves of different races, which they use as laborers, food, or trade goods. The neogi are notorious slavers and plunderers, hated in all known crystal spheres.
ECOLOGY
Neogi hatchlings are carnivorous creatures that feed on the flesh and blood of other living beings. They have a voracious appetite and a fast metabolism, which makes them grow quickly if they have enough food. They can also survive for long periods without food by entering a state of hibernation. Neogi hatchlings have a short lifespan of about 45 years, but they can extend it by consuming the essence of other creatures through their mind control ability. This also allows them to gain some of the memories and skills of their victims. Neogi hatchlings have a low reproductive rate, as they often kill and eat each other before reaching maturity. Only a few neogi hatchlings manage to become neogi adults, who can then produce more eggs. Neogi hatchlings have few natural predators, as they can defend themselves with their venom and mind control. However, they are hunted by many enemies who seek to destroy them for their evil deeds.
