5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
A Naga Guardian is a large, snake-like creature with a human-like face and a crest of feathers or scales on its head. Its body is covered with green-gold scales that shimmer in the light, and it has silvery triangles along its spine. Its eyes are bright and golden, and it emits a sweet floral scent. A Naga Guardian is an immortal being that often protects sacred places and items of great power or knowledge, especially those that could be dangerous if misused. It is a wise and intelligent creature that can speak several languages, including Celestial, Common, Draconic, and Supernal. It is usually lawful good in alignment, but it can vary depending on its free will and personality. It is so called because its lawful good nature makes it a perfect sentinel over a like-aligned being’s treasure or some evil.
COMBAT
A Naga Guardian is a formidable opponent in combat, as it has access to both physical and magical attacks. It can bite or spit poison at its enemies, delivering a potent venom that can cause severe damage or death. It can also cast a variety of divine spells, such as command, cure wounds, banishment, flame strike, and true seeing. It prefers to warn intruders before attacking, and only resorts to violence if provoked or threatened. It is very loyal to its cause and will fight to the death to protect what it guards. If it dies, however, it will return to life in a few days, unless prevented by a wish spell. It often buries those defeated in battle.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
A Naga Guardian usually lives in temperate plains or other open areas where it can guard its chosen site or item. It may also inhabit ancient temples or ruins that contain secrets or relics of its former masters. It is often solitary, but it may ally with other creatures that share its goals or values. It may also subjugate primitive tribes of kobolds, troglodytes, or lizardfolk to serve as its minions or guardians. It has a hostile relationship with yuan-ti, who are its natural enemies and rivals for ancient lore and magic. However, it may sometimes cooperate with them if their interests align.
ECOLOGY
A Naga Guardian does not need to eat or drink, as it sustains itself with magic and the energy of its sacred site or item. It does not age or reproduce, as it is an immortal creation of an ancient race. It spends most of its time studying magic, lore, and strategy, as well as maintaining its vigilance over its domain. It may occasionally venture out to seek allies or enemies, or to learn new secrets or spells. It views itself as a superior being and a protector of the world from evil and chaos.
