5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
A Lightning Mephit is a creature that resembles a living storm cloud. It has a humanoid shape, but its arms are thin bolts of lightning and its feet and hands are fluffy and dark. It has no wings, but it can fly through the air with incredible speed, sometimes faster than it can control. Its eyes are bright sparks that flash with curiosity and mischief. A Lightning Mephit speaks very quickly and likes to be involved in everything that happens around it.
A Lightning Mephit is about 4 feet tall and weighs about 1 pound. It comes from the Elemental Planes of Air and Quasi-Elemental Planes of Lighting. Rarely are they encountered elsewhere unless summoned or called by a spellcaster. If encountered on a material plane, it is usually in the employ of some spellcaster who has called it to do his or her bidding. Occasionally however, a lightning mephit stumbles into a material plane by way of a lightning storm (when said storm reaches into the Plane of Air and opens a temporary portal). Lightning mephits found anywhere except their home plane will be encountered in areas where lightning and storms are most prevalent.
COMBAT
A Lightning Mephit is not very interested in fighting, unless it is provoked or bored. It prefers to make friends with other creatures, or at least annoy them with its pranks and jokes. It has no claws or teeth, but it can use its lightning arms to deliver powerful shocks to its enemies. It can also cast a lightning bolt spell within a short range, but doing so drains some of its energy.
A Lightning Mephit is immune to fire, heat, and electricity, and can regenerate any damage it takes from these sources. It can also summon other Lightning Mephits to aid it in combat, but this ability is limited and unpredictable. A Lightning Mephit’s greatest weakness is water, which can extinguish its spark and destroy it instantly.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
A Lightning Mephit originates from the Quasi-Elemental Plane of Lightning, a realm of endless storms and flashes. It is drawn to places where there is a lot of electrical activity, such as thunderstorms, power plants, or magic laboratories. It likes to explore new environments and learn new things, often causing trouble or accidents along the way.
Unlike most other mephits, Lightning Mephits are social and often travel in groups. They communicate with each other using a rapid and complex language of sparks and crackles. They have no leader or hierarchy, but they tend to follow the most adventurous or charismatic member of their band. They have no permanent home or territory, but they sometimes return to their favorite spots to rest or recharge.
ECOLOGY
A Lightning Mephit is a creature of pure energy that does not need to eat, drink, or sleep. It feeds on electricity and can absorb it from any source, natural or artificial. It can also produce electricity by rubbing its body parts together or by tapping into the ambient energy of the air. A Lightning Mephit does not age or reproduce, but it can create new mephits by splitting itself in half or by fusing with another mephit of the same type. This process is rare and unpredictable, and usually happens when a mephit is exposed to a large amount of electricity or when it feels a strong emotion.
Lightning Mephit is employed as component to empower the following spells:
