Chilling Area. Any creature that starts its turn within 5 feet of the ice mephit must succeed on a DC 8 Constitution saving throw or become frostbitten for 1 minute. A frostbitten creature has disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Death Burst. When the mephit dies, it explodes in a burst of jagged ice. Each creature within 5 feet of it must make a DC 10 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4 (1d8) slashing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
False Appearance. While the mephit remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary shard of ice.
Innate Spellcasting (1/Day). The mephit can innately cast fog cloud, requiring no material components. Its innate spellcasting ability is Charisma.
Regeneration. The ice mephit regains 1 hit point at the start of its turn.
ACTIONS
- Multiattack. The ice mephit makes two attacks with its claws.
- Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 3 (1d4 + 1) slashing damage plus 2 (1d4) cold damage.
- Frost Breath (Recharge 6). The mephit exhales a 15- foot cone of cold air. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 10 Dexterity saving throw, taking 5 (2d4) cold damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
An ice mephit is a small elemental creature composed of frigid air and water. It has a humanoid shape with translucent skin, sharp claws, and wings. Its eyes are cold and indifferent, and its mouth is full of jagged teeth. An ice mephit can blend in with ordinary shards of ice when it remains motionless, making it hard to spot in its natural environment. Ice mephits are aloof and cruel, and they enjoy tormenting other creatures with their frosty breath and icy touch.
COMBAT
An ice mephit is not a formidable opponent in combat, but it can be a nuisance with its innate spellcasting and death burst abilities. An ice mephit can cast fog cloud once per day, creating a thick cloud of mist that obscures vision and hinders ranged attacks. An ice mephit can also exhale a cone of cold air that deals cold damage to anyone caught in its blast. An ice mephit is vulnerable to bludgeoning and fire damage, but immune to cold and poison damage. When an ice mephit dies, it explodes in a burst of jagged ice that slashes anyone nearby.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
An ice mephit prefers cold and frozen environments, such as glaciers, ice caves, or snowy mountains. It can also be found in places where elemental air and water meet, such as misty lakes or foggy coasts. An ice mephit is usually solitary or part of a small group of its own kind. It rarely interacts with other creatures, unless it wants to harass or mock them. An ice mephit is loyal to its elemental lord, but otherwise has no sense of morality or compassion.
ECOLOGY
An ice mephit is a manifestation of the elemental forces of air and water in their coldest form. It has no need for food or sleep, but it enjoys playing with ice and snow. An ice mephit can create or manipulate ice with its touch, forming sculptures, weapons, or traps. An ice mephit has no natural predators, but it may be hunted by adventurers or other elemental creatures. An ice mephit has no role in the natural balance, but it may disrupt the local climate with its frosty magic.
Ice Mephit is employed as material component to empower the following spells:
