5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
Grung warriors are the lowest caste of the grung society, a race of frog-like humanoids that live in the rain forests and jungles. They are aggressive, territorial, and see themselves as superior to most other creatures. Grung warriors have a dull greenish-gray skin color that marks their status as hunters, laborers, and fighters. They have large eyes, webbed fingers and toes, and a long sticky tongue that they use to catch prey and enemies. Grung warriors are loyal to their tribe and their leader, the gold grung, who is the only one that can mate with the orange grung, the elite warriors.
COMBAT
Grung warriors are skilled in combat, using their natural abilities and weapons to defend their territory and attack intruders. They are immune to poison and can secrete a substance from their skin that is harmless to them but poisonous to other creatures. Any creature that grapples the grung or otherwise comes into direct contact with the grung’s skin must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 1 minute. A poisoned creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. Grung warriors also have a chirring noise that they can make, which stuns any humanoid or beast that is within 15 feet of them and able to hear it unless they succeed on a Wisdom saving throw. Grung warriors typically fight with spears, daggers, nets, or blowguns, using their stealth and agility to ambush their foes.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
Grung warriors live in tribal communities in the rain forests and jungles, usually near water sources. They build huts, platforms, bridges, and traps from wood, vines, and mud. They worship a dead goddess called Nangnang, who they believe will one day return and grant them dominion over all lands. Grung warriors are subservient to the higher castes of grungs, especially the gold grung, who is the sovereign of the tribe. They follow the orders of the purple grung, who are the administrators and commanders. They work alongside the blue grung, who are the artisans and domestic workers. They avoid contact with the red grung, who are the scholars and magic users. They aspire to become orange grung, who are the elite warriors and potential mates for the gold grung. Grung warriors are hostile to most other races, especially those that encroach on their territory or resources. They sometimes capture slaves or prisoners for labor or sacrifice.
ECOLOGY
Grung warriors are carnivorous, feeding on insects, rodents, birds, fish, and other small animals. They use their tongues to catch their prey or snatch it from traps. They also scavenge for fruits, nuts, mushrooms, and other edible plants. Grung warriors are born as tadpoles in ground-level pools that are well-guarded by the tribe. They take on the shape of an adult after three months and take on the color of their caste after six to nine months. Grung warriors have a lifespan of about 20 years. They do not mate or reproduce unless they become orange grung or gold grung. Grung warriors have few natural predators, but they face threats from other tribes of grungs or other races that compete for their habitat.
