5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A gnoll fang of Yeenoghu is a gnoll that has been possessed by a demonic spirit, a gift bestowed upon them by the demon lord Yeenoghu. They are considered the Lord of Savagery’s most favored servants. A gnoll fang of Yeenoghu looks like a large, evil, hyena-like humanoid that stands erect on two legs and has hands that can manipulate as well as those of any human. They have greenish gray skin, darker near the muzzle, with a short reddish gray to dull yellow mane. They wear hide armor and wield claws and teeth as their primary weapons. They have darkvision and can speak Abyssal and Gnoll.

COMBAT

A gnoll fang of Yeenoghu is a ferocious and relentless fighter that revels in slaughter and carnage. They are loyal to Yeenoghu and will obey his commands without question. They have a special ability called rampage, which allows them to move and attack again after killing a creature with a melee attack. They also have a poisonous bite that can inflict additional damage to their victims. A gnoll fang of Yeenoghu will often lead a pack of gnolls or other fiends in battle, using their charisma and intimidation to rally their allies. They are not afraid of death, but will retreat if they sense that Yeenoghu’s favor has turned against them.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

Gnoll fangs of Yeenoghu are most often encountered underground or inside abandoned ruins. When above ground they operate primarily at night. Gnoll society is ruled by the strongest, using fear and intimidation. A gnoll lair will contain between 20d10 adult males. For every 20 gnolls, there will be a 7 Hit Die leader. If 100 or more are encountered there will also be a chieftain who has 10 Hit Dice, an Armor Class of 17, and who receives a +5 to hit and +3 on damage rolls due to his great strength. A gnoll fang of Yeenoghu is usually one of these leaders or chieftains, or their personal guard. In a lair, there will be females equal to half the number of males. Females are equal to males in combat, though not usually as well armed or armored. There will also be twice as many young as there are adults in the lair, but they do not fight. Gnolls always have at least 1 slave for every 10 adults in the lair, and may have many more. They treat their slaves cruelly and often sacrifice them to Yeenoghu.

ECOLOGY

Gnolls are carnivorous scavengers that feed on the flesh of any creature they can kill or find. They have no regard for nature or balance, and will often overhunt an area until it is depleted of resources. They are enemies of most other races, especially elves, dwarves, halflings, and humans. They sometimes ally with other evil creatures, such as orcs, hobgoblins, trolls, or flinds, but only for mutual benefit or under the influence of Yeenoghu. Gnolls worship Yeenoghu as their creator and master, and seek to emulate his savagery and hunger. They believe that by killing and devouring other creatures, they can gain their strength and please their demon lord. Gnolls have no culture or art of their own, but sometimes copy or deface the works of others. They have no concept of honor or morality, only survival and domination.
