Ooze Cube. The cube takes up its entire space. Other creatures can enter the space, but a creature that does so is subjected to the cube’s Engulf and has disadvantage on the saving throw. Creatures inside the cube can be seen but have total cover. A creature within 5 feet of the cube can take an action to pull a creature or object out of the cube. Doing so requires a successful DC 12 Strength check, and the creature making the attempt takes 10 (3d6) acid damage. The cube can hold only one Large creature or up to four Medium or smaller creatures inside it at a time.

Transparent. Even when the cube is in plain sight, it takes a successful DC 15 Wisdom (Perception) check to spot a cube that has neither moved nor attacked. A creature that tries to enter the cube’s space while unaware of the cube is surprised by the cube.

ACTIONS

  • Pseudopod. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: (3d6) acid damage.
  • Engulf. The cube moves up to its speed. While doing so, it can enter Large or smaller creatures’ spaces. Whenever the cube enters a creature’s space, the creature must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw.
On a successful save, the creature can choose to be pushed 5 feet back or to the side of the cube. A creature that chooses not to be pushed suffers the consequences of a failed saving throw.
On a failed save, the cube enters the creature’s space, and the creature takes 10 (3d6) acid damage and is engulfed. The engulfed creature can’t breathe, is restrained, and takes 21 (6d6) acid damage at the start of each of the cube’s turns. When the cube moves, the engulfed creature moves with it.
An engulfed creature can try to escape by taking an action to make a DC 12 Strength check. On a success, the creature escapes and enters a space of its choice within 5 feet of the cube.
  • Engulf (suggested). The engulfed creature can’t breathe, is restrained, and takes 21 (6d6) acid damage at the start of each of the cube’s turns. Additionally, the engulfed creature must make a DC 12 Constitution saving throw at the end of each of its turns. On a failed save, the creature is paralyzed until it is no longer engulfed by the cube. When the cube moves, the engulfed creature moves with it. An engulfed creature can try to escape by taking an action to make a DC 12 Strength check. On a success, the creature escapes and enters a space of its choice within 5 feet of the cube.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A gelatinous cube is a bizarre and nearly transparent creature that resembles a ten-foot cube of gelatinous ooze. It is able to absorb and digest organic matter, leaving behind only bones and metal objects. A gelatinous cube has no eyes, ears, or mouth, but it can sense vibrations and smells in its surroundings. It moves by contracting and expanding its body, sliding through dungeon corridors, sewers, or ruins in search of food.

COMBAT

A gelatinous cube is not very agile or intelligent, but it is very resilient and dangerous. It can attack by slamming its acidic pseudopod at a nearby creature, or by trying to engulf a creature that enters its space. A creature that is engulfed by a gelatinous cube can’t breathe, is restrained, and takes acid damage every turn. Additionally, the gelatinous cube secretes a paralyzing substance that can immobilize its prey. A creature that is engulfed can try to escape by making a strength check, or by being pulled out by an ally. A gelatinous cube is immune to many conditions, such as being blinded, charmed, deafened, frightened, or prone. It can also be hard to spot, as it blends in with its environment unless it moves or attacks.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A gelatinous cube is a solitary and scavenging creature that has no social interactions or culture. It lives in dark and damp places where there is always food to scavenge, such as corpses, garbage, or living creatures. It follows a predictable pattern of movement, scouring its territory for food and avoiding obstacles. A gelatinous cube does not have any natural enemies or allies, but it may encounter other creatures that share its habitat, such as rats, spiders, oozes, or undead. A gelatinous cube does not discriminate between edible and inedible creatures, and will try to consume anything that crosses its path.

ECOLOGY

A gelatinous cube does not need to breathe, drink, or sleep, but it does need to eat regularly to sustain itself. It digests its food with acid and enzymes, leaving behind only bones and metal objects. Treasure is sometimes swept up by a gelatinous cube as the creature travels along a cavern floor; any metals, gems, or jewelry are carried in the monster’s body until they can be ejected as indigestible. A gelatinous cube reproduces by budding, splitting off a smaller cube from its body when it reaches a certain size. The smaller cube then grows and develops into an independent creature. Young are not protected and are sometimes reabsorbed by the parent.

A gelatinous cube has no natural role in the ecosystem, but it may serve as a source of food for some creatures that can resist its acid or paralysis. The gelatinous cube is sometimes encouraged to stay in a certain area for its scavenging abilities, and is preferred over other jellies and oozes since its square shape does not allow it to slither under doors and into areas in which it is not desired.

Gelatinous cube is employed as material component to empower the following spells:
