Incorporeal Movement. The eidolon can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. It takes 5 (1d10) force damage if it ends its turn inside an object other than a sacred statue.
Sacred Animation (Recharge 5-6). When the eidolon moves into a space occupied by a sacred statue, the eidolon can disappear, causing the statue to become a creature under the eidolon’s control. The eidolon uses the sacred statue’s statistics in place of its own.
Turn Resistance. The eidolon has advantage on saving throws against any effect that turns undead.
ACTIONS
- Divine Dread. Each creature within 60 feet of the eidolon that can see it must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened of it for 1 minute. While frightened in this way, the creature must take the Dash action and move away from the eidolon by the safest available route at the start of each of its turns, unless there is nowhere for it to move, in which case the creature also becomes stunned until it can move again. A frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a target’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the target is immune to any eidolon’s Divine Dread for the next 24 hours.
5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
An eidolon is a type of undead construct that serves as a guardian of a sacred site or a holy relic. It is created by a deity or an archdevil from the soul of a devoted follower who proved their unwavering faith in life. An eidolon has no physical form of its own, but can inhabit specially prepared statues that bear the symbol of its creator. These statues are usually made of stone and have a purple hue, and they can vary in size and shape depending on the deity’s preference. An eidolon can move from one statue to another within its domain, or fight as an incorporeal spirit if no statue is available. An eidolon is loyal to its creator and will defend its assigned location with fanatical zeal, invoking fear and awe in its enemies.
An eidolon is forged from the souls of those who had proven their unwavering devotion to their god. The process of creating an eidolon involves embedding a crystal shard containing a spark of divinity into the soul of the deceased follower, then binding it to a sacred statue. The crystal shard acts as the source of the eidolon’s power and personality, while the statue acts as the vessel for its form and movement. The creation of an eidolon is considered a great honor for the follower, as they are granted eternal service to their god.
An eidolon’s domain can be anywhere that is considered sacred or important to its creator, such as a temple, a shrine, a vault, a tomb, or even a natural feature. An eidolon’s domain usually contains multiple sacred statues that the eidolon can inhabit, as well as other defenses and traps. If an enemy with ill intent sets foot inside a warded location, the eidolon plunges into a graven vessel, a statue specially prepared to house the souls of these protectors. The eidolon then animates the effigy and uses the borrowed body to drive out the intruders bent on plundering the relics it is charged with guarding.
COMBAT
An eidolon is a formidable opponent that can use both physical and magical attacks. It can fly and move through objects and creatures as if they were difficult terrain, and it has resistance or immunity to many types of damage. It can also inhabit any sacred statue within its domain, gaining the benefits of its size and shape. For example, an eidolon that possesses a large statue can use its limbs to crush or grapple foes, while an eidolon that possesses a statue with wings can fly faster and farther. An eidolon can also use the special abilities of its creator, such as spells or divine powers. Some eidolons can even spew caustic seawater or blood-like fluid that can burn or blind their enemies, or encase them in coral domes as ritual sacrifices.
An eidolon is not without weaknesses, however. It can be harmed by force damage, and it takes damage if it ends its turn inside an object other than a sacred statue. It can also be turned or destroyed by effects that target undead, although it has advantage on saving throws against such effects. Furthermore, an eidolon can be corrupted or driven mad by the divine spark within it, causing it to act unpredictably or even turn against its creator. Such rogue eidolons often leak blood-like fluid from their statues’ facial symbols, indicating their loss of control.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
An eidolon has no society of its own, as it is bound to a specific location and has no free will. It only interacts with other creatures that serve or worship its creator, or those that intrude upon its domain. An eidolon does not need to eat, sleep, or breathe, but it does require regular maintenance and care from its creator’s servants.
Some creatures, such as medusas and grimlocks, may worship an eidolon as a manifestation of its creator’s power. These creatures may offer sacrifices or gifts to the eidolon, or seek its guidance or protection. An eidolon may tolerate or reward such followers, depending on its creator’s will and personality.
ECOLOGY
An eidolon is an unnatural creature that has no place in the natural order. It does not reproduce or age, but it can be destroyed by physical or magical means. If an eidolon is destroyed, its soul is released from its bond and returns to the afterlife. The crystal shard may remain intact or shatter depending on the force of the destruction. If the crystal shard is intact, it may be used to create another eidolon with the same soul and personality. If the crystal shard is shattered, it may release residual energy that can cause unpredictable effects in the surrounding area.
