Fey Ancestry. The drow has advantage on saving throws against
being charmed, and magic can’t put the drow to sleep.
Innate Spellcasting. The drow’s spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 12). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
- At will: dancing lights
- 1/day each: darkness, faerie fire, levitate (self only)
Sunlight Sensitivity. While in sunlight, the drow has disadvantage on attack rolls, as well as on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
ACTIONS
- Multiattack. The drow makes two shortsword attacks.
- Shortsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6 + 4) piercing damage plus 10 (3d6) poison damage.
- Hand Crossbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, range 30/120 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6 + 4) piercing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 hour. If the saving throw fails by 5 or more, the target is also unconscious while poisoned in this way. The target wakes up if it takes damage or if another creature takes an action to shake it awake.
REACTIONS
- Parry. The drow adds 3 to its AC against one melee attack that would hit it. To do so, the drow must see the attacker and be wielding a melee weapon.
5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
The drow elite warrior is a formidable fighter who serves as a loyal guard and soldier for the drow houses and their superiors. They are usually male or female drow, but sometimes they are half-drow or even other races that have been trained and indoctrinated by the drow. They wear studded leather armor and carry shields, shortswords, and hand crossbows. They have dark skin, white hair, and red eyes, and they often adorn themselves with jewelry and tattoos that signify their rank and allegiance. They are proficient in stealth, perception, and innate spellcasting, and they have resistance to magic and immunity to sleep. They also have a keen hatred for dwarves, gnomes, elves, and other drow who oppose them.
COMBAT
The drow elite warrior is a skilled and ruthless combatant who will fight to the death for their cause. They prefer to ambush their enemies from the shadows, using their superior darkvision and stealth to gain surprise. They often use their innate spellcasting to cast darkness, faerie fire, or dancing lights to create confusion and advantage for themselves and their allies. They also use their hand crossbows to fire poisoned bolts at their foes, causing them to fall unconscious or suffer disadvantage on their attacks. They are adept at fighting with their shortswords, using their multiattack to strike twice in one round. They are also trained to fight as a unit, coordinating their actions with other drow warriors and following the orders of their leaders. They will retreat if they are outnumbered or outmatched, but they will not hesitate to sacrifice themselves if it means fulfilling their mission or pleasing their superiors.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
The drow elite warrior lives in the Underdark, the vast network of caverns and tunnels that lies beneath the surface of the world. They serve as the military force of the drow society, which is divided into houses that compete for power and influence. The drow elite warrior is loyal to their house and its matron mother, who is the supreme ruler of the house and a high priestess of Lolth, the Spider Queen. Lolth is the evil deity who commands the drow to spread chaos and destruction in her name, and she rewards those who prove themselves worthy with her favor and punishes those who fail or displease her with her wrath. The drow elite warrior worships Lolth and follows her teachings, which include cruelty, deception, ambition, and survival of the fittest. The drow elite warrior also respects and obeys other powerful figures in the drow society, such as archmages, assassins, nobles, and spies.
ECOLOGY
The drow elite warrior is a humanoid creature that requires food, water, air, and sleep to survive. However, they have adapted to the harsh conditions of the Underdark, where resources are scarce and dangers are abundant. They have developed a resistance to magic and an immunity to sleep, which help them survive against the many magical threats and creatures that lurk in the dark. They also have a darkvision that allows them to see up to 120 feet in total darkness, which gives them an edge over their enemies who rely on light sources. They have a poisonous skin that can harm anyone who touches them without protection, which serves as a defense mechanism against predators and rivals. They also have an amphibious trait that allows them to breathe both air and water, which enables them to explore the many aquatic passages and chambers in the Underdark.
