5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

Drider

A drider is a monstrous creature that combines the features of a drow and a spider. Driders are usually created by the dark goddess Lolth as a punishment for those drow who fail her tests or displease her in some way. Driders are shunned by their former kin and forced to live in the depths of the Underdark, where they hunt for prey and plot revenge against the drow.

Description

A drider has the upper body of a drow and the lower body of a giant spider. The transition between the two forms is abrupt and unnatural, creating a grotesque appearance that horrifies most creatures. A drider’s skin is dark and mottled, and its hair is often white or silver. Its eyes are red, glowing with malice and madness. A drider’s spider body is covered with coarse black hair and has eight legs, each ending in a sharp claw. A drider also has a pair of fangs that can inject venom into its victims.

A drider retains its intelligence and memories from its former life as a drow, but its personality is twisted by pain, anger, and shame. A drider is bitter and hateful, blaming others for its fate and seeking to inflict suffering on those who cross its path. A drider is also cunning and deceptive, using its innate magic and stealth to ambush and ensnare its prey.

A drider can cast all spells a normal drow can use once per day, such as dancing lights, darkness, and faerie fire. A drider also retains any magical or clerical skills it had before transformation. A majority of driders were priests of 6th or 7th level before they were changed, all other driders were mages of 6th, 7th, or 8th level.

Combat

A drider is a formidable opponent in combat, using its physical and magical abilities to gain an advantage over its enemies. A drider can climb on walls and ceilings, move through webs without hindrance, and sense vibrations in its surroundings. A drider’s most common spells are those that enhance its mobility or stealth, such as spider climb, invisibility, or misty step.

A drider prefers to strike from surprise, using its longbow or longsword to inflict damage from a distance or in melee. A drider can also use its bite to inject poison into its target, causing weakness or paralysis. A drider often tries to capture its prey alive, either to torture them for information or pleasure, or to offer them as sacrifices to Lolth.

A drider has several weaknesses that can be exploited by its enemies. A drider is vulnerable to sunlight, which impairs its vision and accuracy. A drider is also susceptible to fire, which can ignite its webbing and hair. A drider is also prone to arrogance and overconfidence, which can lead it to underestimate or taunt its foes.

Habitat / Society

A drider lives in the darkest and most dangerous regions of the Underdark, where it can avoid contact with other creatures. A drider often lairs in caves or ruins that are filled with webs and traps. A drider collects trophies from its kills, such as weapons, armor, jewelry, or body parts, and displays them in its lair as a sign of its power and prowess.

A drider is a solitary creature that rarely associates with others of its kind. Driders view each other as rivals or threats, and often fight over territory or resources. Occasionally, a drider may form a temporary alliance with another drider or a group of drow for a common goal, such as raiding a surface settlement or attacking an enemy stronghold. However, such alliances are fragile and short-lived, as each party seeks to betray or dominate the other.

A drider has no loyalty or affection for anyone but itself. A drider may worship Lolth out of fear or hope for redemption, but it knows that the Spider Queen cares nothing for it. A drider may also seek out other gods or patrons that offer power or vengeance, such as Ghaunadaur or Zuggtmoy. A drider may even try to create its own cult or followers among the weak or desperate creatures of the Underdark.

Ecology

A drider is a carnivorous creature that feeds on any living thing it can catch and kill. A drider prefers to hunt intelligent creatures, such as elves, dwarves, gnomes, or humans, as they provide more challenge and satisfaction than animals or monsters. A drider may also eat fungi, plants, or minerals to supplement its diet.

A drider does not reproduce naturally, as it is sterile and sexless. The only way for new driders to be created is by Lolth’s intervention, which is rare and unpredictable. Some driders may try to create their own offspring by experimenting with magic or alchemy, but such attempts usually result in failure or abomination.

A drider has few natural predators in the Underdark, as most creatures fear or avoid it. However, a drider may face competition or hostility from other powerful denizens of the dark realm, such as mind flayers, beholders, aboleths, or dragons. A drider may also encounter adventurers or explorers who seek to destroy it or plunder its lair.

Drider is employed as material component to empower the following spells:
