CLOUD GIANT’s TACTICS (read the article)
5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
Cloud giants are one of the most ancient and powerful races of giants, living in floating castles and soaring through the skies. They have muscular human builds and handsome, well-defined features. The typical cloud giant is 24 feet tall and weighs 11,500 pounds. Female cloud giants can be 1 to 2 feet shorter and 1,000 to 2,000 pounds lighter. Cloud giants’ skin ranges in color from a milky-white tinged with blue to a light sky blue. Their hair is silvery white or brass and their eyes are an iridescent blue.
Cloud giants dress in clothing made of the finest materials available and wear jewelry. Many of the giants consider their appearance an indication of their station; the more jewelry and the better the clothes, the more important the giant. Cloud giants also appreciate music, and the majority of them are able to play one or more instruments (their favorite is the harp). Unlike most other giant races, cloud giants leave their treasure in their lairs, carrying with them only food, throwing rocks, 10-100 (10d10) coins, and a musical instrument.
Cloud giants are proud and haughty, considering themselves superior to other creatures. They have a strong sense of honor and tradition, but they can also be cruel and capricious, depending on their alignment . Cloud giants consider themselves above all other giants, save storm giants, whom they consider equals. They are creative, appreciate fine things, and are master strategists in battle. Cloud giants can live to be 400 years old.
COMBAT
Cloud giants are formidable foes in combat, wielding massive morningstars or hurling rocks with deadly accuracy. They can also use their innate spellcasting abilities to create fog clouds, fly, telekinesis objects, or even control the weather. Cloud giants prefer to fight from a distance, using their keen smell to locate their enemies in the mist. They are not afraid to retreat if the battle turns against them, using their gaseous form or misty step spells to escape . Cloud giants are often accompanied by aerial allies, such as griffons, rocs, or even dragons.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
Cloud giants live in isolated communities on floating islands or castles, hidden by perpetual clouds. They rarely interact with other races, except for trading or raiding. Cloud giants value art, music, and literature, and often collect rare and precious items. They also enjoy gambling and feasting, sometimes inviting guests from other planes or realms. Cloud giants have a complex social hierarchy, based on their wealth and reputation. The most powerful and respected cloud giant is called the jarl, who rules over a clan or a region.
Cloud giants follow the ancient laws of Jotunskye, the language of the giants, which dictate their customs and rituals . Cloud giants live in small clans of no more than six giants. However, these clans know the location of 1d8 other clans and will band together with some of these clans for celebrations, battles, or to trade. These joined clans will recognize one among them to be their leader — this is usually an older cloud giant who has magical abilities. One in 10 cloud giants will have spells equivalent to a 4th level wizard, and one in 20 cloud giants will be the equivalent of a 4th level cleric.
Good cloud giants trade with human and demi-human communities for food, wine, jewelry, and cloth. Some cloud giant clans will establish good relations with such communities, and will come to the communities’ aid if they are endangered. Evil cloud giants raid human and demi-human communities to get what they want.
ECOLOGY
Cloud giants are omnivorous, eating a variety of foods, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, meat, and cheese. They also drink wine and ale, sometimes brewed from cloudberries or other exotic ingredients. Cloud giants have a symbiotic relationship with their aerial mounts, providing them with food and shelter in exchange for their loyalty and service . Cloud giants have few natural enemies, except for other giants who covet their riches or challenge their authority. Cloud giants are also wary of dragons, especially evil ones who might attack their homes or steal their treasures.
