5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A chimera is a monstrous creature that combines the features of a goat, a lion, and a dragon. It has three heads, each corresponding to one of these animals, and a pair of large wings. The color and type of the dragon head varies among individuals, but it is usually metallic or chromatic. A chimera’s body is about 5 feet long, with a 4-foot-long tail, and it weighs about 4,000 pounds. A chimera’s eyes are a deep amber color, and its fur and scales are usually brown, black, or tan .

How chimerae were created is a dark mystery better left unexplored. The goat head is pitch black, with glowing amber eyes and long ochre horns. The lion head is framed by a brown mane and has green eyes. The dragon head is covered with orange scales and has black eyes.

COMBAT

A chimera is a fearsome opponent in combat, using its three heads to attack from different angles. It can bite with its lion and goat heads, gore with its horns, and claw with its paws. Its most devastating attack, however, is the fire breath of its dragon head, which it can unleash in a 15-foot cone every few seconds . A chimera’s fire breath is powerful enough to incinerate most foes, and it can also ignite flammable objects and structures. A chimera is not very intelligent, but it is cunning and vicious. It prefers to ambush its prey from the air, swooping down and engulfing them with fire before landing to finish them off. A chimera is also territorial and aggressive, and will attack anyone who intrudes on its lair or hunting grounds.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A chimera lives in isolated and rugged areas, such as mountains, hills, or grasslands. It makes its lair in a cave or a ruin, where it hoards treasure and food. The dragonish part of its nature gives the chimera a distinct preference for caves as lairs. A chimera is a solitary creature, except during the mating season, when it seeks out another chimera of the opposite sex. A female chimera lays a clutch of 2 to 5 eggs, which hatch after 6 months. The young chimeras stay with their mother for about a year, learning how to hunt and survive. After that, they leave to find their own territories . Some chimeras are dragon-like in their preference for solitude, while others live in small prides. Even if they mate, offspring are rare.

A chimera does not have any allies or enemies among other creatures, except for dragons. A chimera respects dragons of the same color as its own head, and may even serve them as minions or guardians. A chimera hates dragons of different colors, especially those that are opposite to its own on the chromatic or metallic spectrum.

ECOLOGY

A chimera is an omnivorous creature that feeds on any animal or humanoid it can catch. It hunts by flying over its territory and spotting potential prey with its keen eyesight. It then dives down and attacks with its fire breath and claws. A chimera can eat up to 10% of its body weight in one meal, and it stores excess food in its lair for later consumption. The goat head will browse on the toughest plants and shrubs and will derive nutrition from the most barren vegetation while the lion and dragon heads can only be satisfied with flesh. A chimera hunts once every 3 or 4 days, using its strength and limited intelligence to gain an advantage over those it preys on. Having a voracious appetite, it sometimes roams over territories as large as 20 square miles.

Being chaotic evil in nature, the chimera enjoys preying upon men, elves, dwarves, and halflings. It will even gladly attack other monsters in its search for food. Anyone entering its territory becomes prey, and will be treated accordingly.

The chimera cannot resist attacking groups of travelers or monsters for another reason: its dragon nature craves the treasure that its prey might be carrying. Although it has no earthly use for it, the chimera will gather the coins of its fallen foe into a heap and roost on it like a dragon. Its hoard is nothing like that of a true dragon, however, and consists mainly of copper and silver coins, with perhaps some jewelry and a few magical items.

A chimera has a lifespan of about 50 years, but it may live longer if it serves a powerful dragon or finds a rich source of treasure. A chimera’s body parts are valuable for alchemy and magic, especially its fire-breathing glands, horns, scales, and eyes.

Chimera is employed as material component to empower the following spells:
