Innate Spellcasting (suggested). The blue slaad’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 10 The blue slaad can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

Magic Resistance. The slaad has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Regeneration. The slaad regains 10 hit points at the start of its turn if it has at least 1 hit point.

Summon Slaadi (suggested). Twice per day a blue slaad can attempt to gate in 1 blue slaad.

  • Note: include this special ability only if you consider the slaadi as fiends native from the plane of Limbo.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The slaad makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.

  • Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 5) piercing damage.

  • Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 5) slashing damage. If the target is a humanoid, it must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be infected with a disease called Chaos Phage. While infected, the target can’t regain hit points, and its hit point maximum is reduced by 10 (3d6) every 24 hours. If the disease reduces the target’s hit point maximum to 0, the target instantly transforms into a red slaad or, if it has the ability to cast spells of 3rd level or higher, a green slaad. Only a wish spell can reverse the transformation.
  • Rake (suggested). Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d4 + 5) slashing damage.

DESCRIPTION

The Blue Slaad is a type of aberration that resembles a humanoid toad with blue skin and grey streaks. It is a member of the Slaad race, which is a subrace of the Bullies. The Blue Slaad is generally superior to its red counterpart in every way, but only barely so, and is still considered to be of low status. The Blue Slaad has two long hooks of bone on its hands that can inflict a rotting disease called Chaos Phage on its victims. It also has some spell-like abilities, such as Hold Person, Passwall and Telekinesis

COMBAT

The Blue Slaad is a strong and aggressive fighter that relies on its claws and hooks to attack its enemies. It can also use its fangs to bite and inject its Chaos Phage. The Blue Slaad fights en masse and coordinates effectively with its allies, but it is not very tactically superior. It tends to attack most other creatures on sight, especially those that are weaker or more vulnerable than it. The Blue Slaad has a poor temper and a need to prove its physical superiority.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

The Blue Slaad lives in Limbo, the plane of existence where most aberrations originate from. Limbo is a chaotic and hostile place, where life forms constantly struggle for survival and dominance. The Blue Slaad belongs to the Slaad society, which is composed of various types of aberrations that share a common origin and culture. The Slaads are ruled by the Black Slaad, the most powerful and ancient of them all, who acts as the big bad boss and bullies the other Slaads as he sees fit.

ECOLOGY

The Blue Slaad is a large aberration that lives in dark and damp places, such as sewers, caves, or abandoned buildings. It feeds on organic matter, especially meat and blood, and can survive without food for long periods of time. It is attracted to bright lights and loud noises, and will often attack anything that moves or makes noise.

The Blue Slaad is a chaotic neutral creature that values its own survival and freedom above all else. It does not care about the suffering it causes to others, and will often prey on weaker or more vulnerable creatures. It is hostile to most other races, especially those who oppose its chaotic nature or try to interfere with its reproduction.
