Amorphous. The pudding can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing.

Corrosive Form. A creature that touches the pudding or hits it with a melee attack while within 5 feet of it takes 4 (1d8) acid damage. Any nonmagical weapon made of metal or wood that hits the pudding corrodes. After dealing damage, the weapon takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to damage rolls. If its penalty drops to -5, the weapon is destroyed. Nonmagical ammunition made of metal or wood that hits the pudding is destroyed after dealing damage. The pudding can eat through 2-inch-thick, nonmagical wood or metal in 1 round.

Spider Climb. The pudding can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

ACTIONS

  • Pseudopod. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage plus 18 (4d8) acid damage. In addition, nonmagical armor worn by the target is partly dissolved and takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to the AC it offers. The armor is destroyed if the penalty reduces its AC to 10

REACTIONS

  • Split. When a pudding that is Medium or larger is subjected to lightning or slashing damage, it splits into two new puddings if it has at least 10 hit points. Each new pudding has hit points equal to half the original pudding’s, rounded down. New puddings are one size smaller than the original pudding.

5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

A black pudding is a type of ooze, a living blob of slime that can digest almost anything. It has no eyes, ears, or other sensory organs, but it can sense vibrations and heat. It is usually black or dark brown in color, and has a sticky and acidic surface. A black pudding can squeeze through any opening as small as an inch, and can climb on walls and ceilings. It is often found in dark and damp places, such as dungeons, sewers, or caves.

COMBAT

A black pudding is a mindless predator that attacks any creature it encounters. It uses its pseudopod, a flexible appendage that can lash out at its prey, to deal both bludgeoning and acid damage. The acid can corrode metal and wood, making weapons and armor less effective against it. A black pudding can also split into two smaller puddings when hit by lightning or slashing damage, making it harder to kill. A black pudding is immune to cold, lightning, and slashing damage, as well as several conditions that affect more complex creatures.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

A black pudding has no society or culture. It lives alone or in small groups of its own kind. It does not communicate with other creatures, except to attack them. A black pudding does not have a fixed territory or lair, but it may stay in an area where food is abundant. A black pudding does not care about treasure or valuables, but it may inadvertently accumulate them in its body as it consumes everything in its path.

ECOLOGY

A black pudding is an ecological menace that can disrupt the natural balance of an ecosystem. It feeds on organic and inorganic matter alike, leaving behind nothing but slime and dissolved residue. It has few natural predators, as most animals avoid its acidic touch. A black pudding can reproduce by splitting or budding, creating more oozes that share its hunger and hostility. A black pudding can live for centuries, unless it is destroyed by adventurers or other powerful forces.
