ACTIONS
- Multiattack. The behir makes two attacks: one with its bite and one to constrict.
- Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 22 (3d10 + 6) piercing damage.
- Constrict. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., one Large or smaller creature. Hit: 17 (2d10 + 6) bludgeoning damage plus 17 (2d10 + 6) slashing damage. The target is grappled (escape DC 16) if the behir isn’t already constricting a creature, and the target is restrained until this grapple ends.
- Constrict (suggested). Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., one Huge or smaller creature. Hit: (2d10 + 6) bludgeoning damage. The target is grappled (escape DC 18) if the behir isn’t already constricting a creature, and the target is restrained until this grapple ends. In the next round, the behir can make six talon attacks against the grappled target.
- Lightning Breath (Recharge 5-6). The behir exhales a line of lightning that is 20 ft. long and 5 ft. wide. Each creature in that line must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 66 (12d10) lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
- Lightning Breath (suggested, Recharge 6). The behir exhales a line of lightning that is 20 ft. long and 5 ft. wide. Each creature in that line must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 42 (12d6) lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
- Swallow. The behir makes one bite attack against a Medium or smaller target it is grappling. If the attack hits, the target is also swallowed, and the grapple ends. While swallowed, the target is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the behir, and it takes 21 (6d6) acid damage at the start of each of the behir’s turns. A behir can have only one creature swallowed at a time. If the behir takes 30 damage or more on a single turn from the swallowed creature, the behir must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw at the end of that turn or regurgitate the creature, which falls prone in a space within 10 ft. of the behir. If the behir dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse by using 15 ft. of movement, exiting prone.
- Swallow (suggested). The behir makes one bite attack against a Large or smaller target it is grappling. If the attack hits, the target is also swallowed, and the grapple ends. While swallowed, the target is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the behir, and it takes 21 (6d6) acid damage at the start of each of the behir’s turns. A behir can have one Large creature or two Medium creature or four Small creature swallowed at a time.
- Talon (suggested). Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 0 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d4 + 6) slashing damage. The behir can use this attack only against a grappled target.
5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
A behir is a fearsome creature that resembles a wingless blue dragon with a long, serpentine body and twelve legs. Its scales are usually dark blue or purple, with lighter stripes or spots. Its belly is pale blue. Its head has two large horns, a row of spines, and a mouth full of sharp teeth. Its eyes are yellow or orange, and glow with a faint light. A behir can grow up to 40 feet long and weigh up to 4,000 pounds. The horns are used for preening the scales and not for fighting.
COMBAT
A behir is a cunning and aggressive predator that prefers to ambush its prey from hiding. It can move swiftly on the ground or climb on walls and ceilings with ease. It can also coil its body around its enemies and crush them with its powerful muscles. A behir has two main weapons: its bite and its lightning breath. Its bite can inflict severe wounds and swallow smaller creatures whole. Its lightning breath can unleash a blast of electricity that can stun or kill multiple foes at once. A behir is immune to lightning damage and can sense the presence of electricity within 100 feet .
HABITAT / SOCIETY
A behir is a solitary creature that claims a large territory of about 400 square miles as its own. It usually dwells in mountainous regions, caves, or ruins, where it can find shelter and prey. A behir is territorial and will attack any intruders that enter its domain. It will also occasionally raid nearby settlements for livestock or treasure. A behir is not very intelligent, but it can speak Draconic and understand some Common. It has a fierce hatred for dragons, especially blue dragons, and will attack them on sight. A behir will sometimes ally itself with other creatures that share its enmity for dragons, such as giants or cultists . A behir will never knowingly enter the territory of a dragon.
ECOLOGY
A behir is a carnivorous creature that feeds on large animals, such as deer, horses, or cattle. It can also eat smaller creatures, such as humans, elves, or goblins, but it prefers larger meals. A behir can go for weeks without eating, but it will gorge itself when it finds a suitable prey. A behir reproduces by laying eggs, which it guards fiercely until they hatch. The female guards these eggs for eight months while the male hunts for the pair. When the young hatch, they are immediately turned out of the nest to fend for themselves, and the adults separate. A young behir emerges from the egg fully formed and ready to hunt. A newly hatched behir is about 2 feet long and has only six or eight legs. Additional pairs of legs grow slowly over time until the creature has its full complement when it reaches adulthood. A behir can live for up to 100 years. As behir sometimes swallow prey whole, there is a chance that there will be some small items of value inside the monster, such as gems, jewelry, or magical objects. Such objects are never found in a behir’s lair, because the creature expels this waste and buries it elsewhere.
