5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.
It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it
DESCRIPTION
The aurumvorax is a small but fierce creature that resembles a cross between a rodent and a lion, with eight legs and golden fur. Its name means “gold-eater” in Latin, and it has a fondness for metals, especially gold and copper. Its fur is extremely tough and resistant to damage, and its teeth and claws can pierce through most materials. It has silver eyes with golden pupils, bronze whiskers, and coppery teeth and claws.
COMBAT
The aurumvorax is not afraid to attack creatures much larger than itself, using its speed and agility to surprise its prey. It usually bites with its powerful jaws, locking them onto the target and refusing to let go until it or its victim is dead. It can also rake with its eight claws, inflicting severe wounds. The aurumvorax is immune to normal fire and resistant to magical fire, poison, and gases. It can only be harmed by adamantine weapons or blunt force.
HABITAT / SOCIETY
The aurumvorax lives in alpine forests, where it burrows into solid rock to make its lair. It is a solitary creature, except when it mates. It claims a hunting territory of about a mile around its den, driving away other predators. It communicates with growls and barks, warning off intruders or potential threats. It cannot speak any language, but it can understand some basic commands if trained.
ECOLOGY
The aurumvorax is a carnivore that feeds on fresh meat, but it also supplements its diet with metals and minerals that it finds in the ground. It can sense the presence of gold and other precious ores, and will dig them out with its claws. It stores some of its metallic treasure in its lair, while digesting the rest. Some say that the aurumvorax’s strength and durability are due to eating these substances. The aurumvorax is hunted for its fur, which can be used to make garments of great beauty and protection.
