5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

An ape is a medium-sized beast that resembles a large monkey. It has brown fur, long arms, and a powerful grip. It can climb trees and throw rocks at its enemies. It is unaligned and has low intelligence, but good perception and athletics skills. It can communicate with simple sounds and gestures, but cannot speak any language. It is usually found in tropical or subtropical forests, where it lives in small groups or alone.

COMBAT

An ape can make two fist attacks or one rock attack per round. Its fist attack deals 1d4 + 3 bludgeoning damage, and its rock attack deals 1d3 + 3 bludgeoning damage and has a range of 25/50 feet. An ape is proficient in Strength and Dexterity saving throws, and has advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

Apes are social animals that form bonds with their mates and offspring. They usually live in small groups of 4 to 12 individuals, led by a dominant male. They are territorial and will defend their home range from intruders. They are mostly herbivorous, feeding on fruits, leaves, nuts, and seeds, but will occasionally hunt small animals or scavenge carrion. They are active during the day and sleep in nests made of branches and leaves at night.

ECOLOGY

Apes play an important role in the ecology of their habitats, as they disperse seeds, pollinate plants, and control insect populations. They are also preyed upon by large predators, such as leopards, crocodiles, or dragons. Apes are threatened by habitat loss, hunting, and disease. Some apes have been captured and trained by humans or other intelligent creatures, such as druids or wizards, for various purposes. Some apes have also developed a curiosity or affinity for human culture, and may try to imitate or interact with humans they encounter.
